I see all kinds of videos on You Tube and such. How are these videos made? I can make a video using the "alt" menu in the sim...but those videos are poor quality and can't be played anywhere except in the sim. I know there are controls for stopping and starting a video recording but I can't get those to work. How do you make a video that can be played outside the sim?

I made sortof an easy tutorial on how to make a fsx video..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUFEDb1m-d0

Let me know if it helps or any questions

Also if you get FRAPS and/or a screen recorder just when you wanna save that landing go to instant replay then record in replay becuase the save flight video will show the poorest quality and I dont know if you are going to make youtube videos but if you do that will piss off the people.

Good luck! ;)

Note that there's a free, but dumbed down version of FRAPS, and other editing programs can be used.

Before recording however, I suggest downloading FS Recorder. Record a flight with that, then view it, and record with fraps. That way you can focus on flying first, and recording afterwards, like if you want an air race from an outside view.

It's also better than the in-game replay, and you don't get the text or anything (unless you've turned that off).

fraps is crap man... it gives u loads of bad frame rates when you record videos and the pictures are pixilated

look up ZD soft Game recorder

Its payware but It works a treat... i have it and it gives you exactly what you see on the screen when your recording it, with sound etc and many formats available to record in ( which ever makes your computer works less giving you better frame rates when recording)  :)

Okay I got fs recorder and installed it, made sure the dll.xml file is correct, have the latest version, got all my SP's installed etc., but I still don't get any "tools" menu in flight or anywhere else. Where exactly is this tools menu suppose to be? What do I need to do to make this software work in FSX???
