Editing the altitiude of the atmospheric haze.

Editing the altitiude of the atmospheric haze.

Postby 737-400 » Mon Jul 21, 2008 9:21 am

I've recently began flying the X-15 into the exosphere and take advantage of the 'boundless sky' and dense free environment.
Strangely, the altitiude of the haze in FXS is unrealistic and extends beyond 350,000ft where normally at this altitiude the haze is observed to be below.

What editing can I make on FSX can I make to lower the haze altitiude?

I don't have an answer for you, but can you tell me where you picked up the X-15, I would like to fly one myself.

Thanks!

What do you mean with "Haze" ?
Could you post a screenshot of your "problem" ? 350.000 feet is where space begins (meaning, end of the atmosphere), so it's normal if the atmosphere effect ends there. You are not supposed to get an unlimited view distance below to that altitude.

You can find the freeware addon on simviation's website
http://www.simviation.com/fs2002military39.htm

Oddly, this was designed for FS2002 but seems to work fine on FSX including reflections and moving control surfaces.
Includes VC and panel, although I didn't include the gauges on my FSX gauge file, fearing that it would cause it to crash. The VC is still visible including a static panel and gauges.

In order to achieve an altitude of 200,000ft +, you will need to limit the fuel tanks to 2% which will last the assent.

Annoyingly the X-15 takes off from any runway and isn't historically jettisoned from a B52, although this can be simulated some what using slew mode to the correct altitude.

The Haze is visibly above 350,000ft implying that the atmosphere is beyond 350,000ft.
I've seen pictures from space missions of the atmosphere at this altitude and I can say that it is much thinner than that on FSX.
Therefore I want to edit the atmosphere in FSX, if possible. And lower it to something that would make it aesthetically pleasing.
8-)

I likes th' X-15.  It goes fast.  See sig.  :)

Another fun "Goes high, goes fast" is the X-24A.

I swapped panels and I think sound (but it's been a while) and use the "single seat militayr) fsx panel in both.  I also added afterburner and smoke for that special look when screaming along. :)

Where did you get the X-24?
