Do you mean add a texture that you've downloaded or one you've made yourself, or how to make a new texture?

You need DTXBmp for textures for FS2004 (DTX3 BMp format)

You need Imagetool the latest version inside the FSX-SDK for FSX textures(DTX5 DDS format)

Photoshop 7 or Paint Shop Pro (but always use it in *.psd the photoshop format)

Grab any of the images of FS9 the one that carry the fuse paintings and drop it in DTXBmp software and save it as bmp 24 bit image for you to work ,after you finish the repaint re-export again to dtx3 (Make sure you mad a back up of its alpha chanel

Grab any DDS images and drop it in DTXBmp software FLIP the image
and save it as 24 Bmp images ,after you finish export by using imagetool latest version in FSX-SDK

DTXBmp its a freeware  I'mk Not sure if this the latest version YOU NEED THE LATES VERSION OF DTXBMP IF IS NOT GOOGLE IT ..YOU WILL FIND IT

Here's a tutorial on installing additional aircraft textures that might help

DTXBmp is used to convert textures to formats used with the flightsim, and yes, it is usefull with FSX

Not at all Andrew, you can convert the images to BMp DTX5 But In BMP  and for apply only the alpha use the DTXBmp only then save it as Bmp with its alpha , then drop it in IMAGETOOL latest release to Convert into DDS wich would be in already in DYX5 ,Yes DTXBmp has a DDS option to export ,but this feature in DTXBmp  Does't work for FSX

That's the way I work ,maybe there might be a better way ,but Never export a bmp to convert into DDS using DTXBmp..won't work in FSX

I think we're getting a little confused here. You don't need DXTBmp or any other 3rd party utility to install repainted textures to an existing aircraft. The procedure is not difficult once you understand the basic principle. May I suggest you read my Windows Basics article before going any further. http://www.simviation.com/lair/Windows%20Basics.htm

If you post a link to the page this file is posted on I'll check it out for you.

Ops ,I'm really sorry ,I though he was asking how to make repaint for FSX  :-[

the title of this thread was "Texturing in fsx" it really sounds like he would ask about making reapints

my english limitations didn't make me realize this ..my apologies

Please railman023 do as Hagar saids and follow his tutorial
