Acceleration not the problem...

Postby JJFranco » Thu Apr 03, 2008 10:39 pm

FSX Acceleration has been in many threads by people that say that the XP system is crashing when they attempt to change a window or use a pull-down menu.  I was having exactly the same problem.  I reinstaled FSX w/o Acceleration and was running smoothly with SP1...

That was until I installed SP2, now I am having the same problems that I had with Acceleration...  The problem is not Acceleration, it is SP2 and Windows XP.  Anyone heard about a hotfix for this?  Can I uninstall SP2?  Or will I have to reinstal the whole DAMN thing? >:(

The video drivers are the one and only source for crashes when using menus. Update your drivers, check your settings.

I disagree, sorry.  The video drivers may cause a problem but their is an underlying problem that is much more likely.  SimConnect has always been problematic in one form or another-this does affect the file menu since it allows programs to interact with FSX.  Usually the first sign is some corruption in the dll.dll

I would say, ensure 100% you install as follows and preferably clean....

WITHOUT ACCELERATION:

FSX then restart after opening a scenario
SP1 then restart after opening a scenario
SP2 then restart after opening a scenario so it saves it before you start using it.  This stops a crash from failing to save it first.....

If you have FSX Deluxe and want the SDK:

SDK base from the disk
SP1a from FSInsiders
SDK SP2 from FSInsiders

WITH ACCELERATION:

FSX then restart after opening a scenario
Acceleration (includes SP1 and SP2) then restart after opening a scenario so it saves it before you start using it.  This stops a crash from failing to save it first.....

Do not load SP2 separately, this will cause problems......

If you have FSX Deluxe and want the SDK:

SDK base from the disk
SP1a from FSInsiders or Acceleration disk
SDK SP2 Acceleration from Acceleration disk only.

Do not install the SDK SP2 download version in this instance......
