My system and FS X?

Postby Sochi_Jon » Sun Mar 30, 2008 11:00 am

Sorry but I want a FS program and i am just not sure if my system will run X or if i should go with 2004!

I have the following:

Gateway GT5408
Processor  Intel Core 2   4300  @  1.8 GHz
Ram: 1014 MB
32 bit processor.

What do you all think? Would X run as well or better/worse than 2004?

Thanks, I really appreciate the feedback.

I'm pretty sure the  4300 is a 64 bit processor..

More important is your video card..

That processor, with 1GB of RAM and a decent video card, should run FS9 well enough (not perfect).

Another GB of RAM and a very nice video card, and you could run FSX, barely.

When I checked the Sytem area.. it said 32 Bit.......

I better stick with 2004 I guess, for now. The graphics in X look much better though!  :-(

thanks for the reply!

Brett:

Sorry, you are right it appears. i checked online for the gateway specs and it tells it is 64 bit!!  I wonder why when I check my system, it says 32!!!?????  Wild..... anyway.. the graphics is onboard and sounds weak.... 224 mb ram... I cant upgrade at this time, so I will go for 2004 for now and in a year or two.. if they dont have a good Flight simulator game for Playstation 3... I'll upgrade!  ;-)

That can run FSX at around medium settings or so what I read.

You are probably running the 32 bit version of windows. But the processor was built on the 64bit architecture.  processors have been built that way for a while now.

My guess is you could run FS 2004 with no problem, but FSX would run slow or you would need to lower the resolution a lot to get it to run at playable framerates.

I downloaded the Trial Version of X and it ran "ok" with settings about half way. I craked them full and it would not work worth a darn...... so.. maybe I will stick with 2004 for now... Running X at half resolution would not be any better than runing 2004 at a little higher res... would it?

Anyway.. I can see I'm going to get addicted again!! I have the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro and it was a lot of fun fooling with the demo.. I got a 2004 off ebay an hour ago for cheap.. so, that will be fine for now. I might grab a X if I can get one cheap too.. but maybe not.

Thanks guys!! Now to learn all the controls for the games......

If you do end up picking up a version of FSX, go ahead and get the deluxe version.  It does cost a little more, but it has more content that really makes up for the extra cost.  I've got the standard version and I really wish now that I would have gotten deluxe instead.
