FS9 to FSX

Postby diga » Sun Feb 17, 2008 11:10 pm

I found this in the flightsimworld forum -
a guy in the french FSX forum at www.libertysim.net found a great tweak !
Most of the ones who tried this DOUBLE THEIR FPS ! (35-40 FPS !!)

The tweak is to replace the FSX.cfg by a good part of the FS9.cfg. Then at the next lauch, FSX will add a few lines to the new FSX.cfg. And then you can enjoy those 30+ FPS !!

I did this to my XP Pro Sp2 with FSX Sp2 and it looks nice.

My French is still schoolboy, so I can follow much but not all.

If someone could post an accurate translation of the introductory text I would be most grateful.

Amongst the myriad of tweaks that we all have used this one is very different.

Are you or anyone able to explain how such a radical approach works?

I guess it can't hurt to much.  If it works fine... if it doesn't just delete the cfg file, or replace it with the saved file, or let FSX build a new one.

Whatever you do, I suggest backing up your current fsx.cfg file before using it

Go to the site and copy the section after [PANELS] to the bottom. Then
first backup your fsx.cfg file. Open the fsx.cfg file and cut the section from PANELS to the end. Paste the section you got from the above site. Save and restart the FSX. I did it on my XP version FSX and looks nice. I am going to do it on my Vista ultimate FSX soon.

Are you sure it is not because the autogen is at 2000 trees/2000 buildings.  This is a tweak available to us all.  Remember that FSX more than doubles the autogen which kills slower systems.

I would suggest that for a test someone ran FSX with the Terrain_Autogen etc tweak at 2000/2000 to test the fps, before putting in the rest of the fs9 cfg.

Tried it.

It doesn't have anything to do with the fs9 added code, it's more like the water on low settings, no scenery complexity, low cloud settings....ect..

Agreed.   It really is no fix.  Read through the cfg and work out the settings they are all very low - and you can do that on FSX by hauling the sliders to the left.

My neighbours are Parisian French, and I got them to translate the post for me.  Their kindest words were that the language used was very colloquial, their unkindest was I think "gutter".  May be the young French have the equivalent of our SMS English.
