Settings

Hey guys, i'm pretty new to the site, but i've been flying with FSX ever since it came out.

I have a pretty standard computer, 1.5 gigs of ram, a decent videocard, and almost no outside programs running and i still have to have almost low settings to not lag (single player and multi)

What would be good gear to play in full settings, if anyone does?

What do you guys recommend?

You need to check out the sticky at the top of this forum. That should give you some ideas. There is no one setting that works for everyone because of the differences in systems. What works for one might cause problems for some one else. It takes time and patience to fine tune your system. It is best to go at it slowly and look at the result of each tweak you make rather than make a lot of tweaks have a problem and than not knowing which tweak caused the problem. 8-)

My first reaction would be that 1.5 gig of RAM is not only insufficient but that it is also probably old and slow.

Which leads to the next question.  What is your system?  CPU. Videocard, motherboard, RAM.

There are experts on this forum who could then assist you.  But as one of those experts says in his tag, the problem is not FSX, the problem is usually your system.

Lt:  with those specifications your system will only run FSX at the most minimal settings.  There is no way around it.  It almost reads as if you are using a notebook.  The hard facts are that you need a gaming computer with the fastest cpu and best videocard you can afford.

There is plenty of suggestions in this forum, both in the FSX board and in the computer hardware section to help you.

In my case I have a quadcore intel qx6850 (4x3gig), a nVidia 8800 GTX videocard (with an on board cache of 768), a Gigabyte motherboard to match, and an X-Fi Soundcard.

For the moment this is near the top end, but of course will be superceded by the end of the year when the next generation arrives.

I am not trying to prove mine is bigger than yours, or win a pissing contest, only to show the sort of combined grunt that FSX really needs to really show its qualities, and to handle the great new scenery add-ons like UTX,GEX and FEX.

These are transforming and outpoint FS9 in every division.  But with a low end system, you are better to stay with FS9, and save those pennies for a medium-high, high end system.

See my sig, only it would be better if you got an 8800GTX, and a slightly faster Core 2 quad as well as a Bearlake (X38) or maybe some kind of Nvidia mobo.

I would not go much behind my rig, as a step below the 8800GT is more or less the 8600GTS, which is a slow POS, and a dual core processor may not be good for fs10 loaded with addons.
