So i bit the Bullet

Postby Tom... » Thu Feb 07, 2008 3:00 pm

I just got FSX and installed it along with SP1 and fired it up and what can i say!
Im getting pretty decent stutter free performance on mediumish settings at the moment and i havent tweeked it at all yet!, also the thing is it does look better than fs9 on the settings i am on now so im happy with that, expect some screenshots soon :D

Also after reading about some of the issues with Sp2, will i see any benefit from installing sp2 or will i be better off keeping Sp1?

Tom...very happy  ;)

I am using SP2/Acceleration and I have been adding MANY aircraft with no issues at all. Some aircraft won't work to my standards (which are very high) so I delete them but it isn't because of SP2 -or- Acceleration. It is almost always due to poorly designed aircraft or aircraft NOT updated to FSX despite the fact that they say they are. I have found a few downloads here that claim to be FSX compatible only to find that it is loaded with FS9 gauges that will not work in FSX -or- parts of the aircraft are "invisible/missing".

There are more than a few of those out there and I think they should either be removed from the FSX download sections -or- actually updated. I think a lot of people are downloading these aircraft and mistakingly blaming them not working on SP2 and Acceleration when it is actually the mis-matched (non-FSX) aircraft itself that is messing things up.

Well said, their are so many about.  Some have the gauges corrected or working anyway and take out the windows.  Yet they profess to be fully upgraded to SDK standards.  I just dump them, not the person who did them and make sure I avoid him in the future.

A good example of this is The Alpha Bleu F4U-7 Corsair package. I absolutely LOVE the aircraft, it is very well modeled and very realistic however, everytime I try to load it into my sim, it mucks everything up. After I install it, None of my aircraft will be started when I load them and when I try to start the engines, some will fire-up and some won't at all. I dumped that add-on and everything went back to normal.  I am not trying to slam any designers here, God knows we love you guys, but this aircraft causes issues. Just an example of what I am talking about.

If you mean the NorCal updated version - well I have SP2 & fly that without any problems whatsoever that bothered me - all gauges seemed to be working - everything fine - beautiful aircraft - works beautifully in FSX SP2. I checked it out when it was uploaded as I'm a great fan of the Corsair .. & took the screenies for the page.

Perhaps you might like to be absolutely specific about what problem you are having with a screenshot to demonstrate & someone may be able to help.

Yes, I am referring to the NORCAL update. Don't misunderstand, the aircraft flies just fine in my sim, the gauges are all there and the model looks great ... none of those things are the issue. The issue is: when I install it, NONE of the aircraft in my hangar have the engines started when I load them into a flight. Then, when I try to start the engines (CTRL-E) on those aircraft, some will start-up and some won't. If I delete the Alpha Bleu Corsair from my hangar and delete the files they say to load into my effects and gauges files, everything goes back to normal. I do not think a screen-shot will help with this issue.

Pete, are you using "Acceleration" also or just SP2?

Well Pete, I decided to reinstall the Corsair and I am still having a similar problem (not the same problem as before) with the aircraft. Now, all my other planes are unaffected by the Corsair installation however, the Corsair itself is experiencing the problem. My flight opens-up with the Corsair started. It promptly "shuts-down it's engine right after that and requires a re-start. I hit "CTRL-E" and the engine restarts but unless I goose the throttle a little, it will shut right back down again. As long as I goose the throttle on start-up and immediately throttle-up for take-off, it will keep running and I can fly it. Does this aircraft behave this way with you also? Is this "cold-natured" engine just a normal feature of the aircraft?

Post Edit: I forgot to mention that as soon as I "touchdown" on the runway (every single time) the engine cuts-out and I have to re-start just to taxi off of the runway.
