simple question on SP2 please

FSX including FSX Steam version.

simple question on SP2 please

Postby volunteer » Mon Jan 28, 2008 4:38 pm

I am sure this is stupid of me to ask - but I am happy with FSX as it is - I have SP! on it.
Is there any point in adding SP2  given all the fuss involved!
What does SP2 do?

cheers - volunteer

I am going to go out on a limb here but I believe that service pack 2 relates to ACCELERATION as for do you need it or not or will it help your system preform better. That is a flip of a coin as far as I can see.
Some say it makes a differance while others say no. Bottom line is if you like things the way they are now then DO NOT FIX SOMETHING THAT IS NOT BROKE I say. It is your choice I have both SP1 and SP2
and do not have ACCELERATION and I have seen some system improvements. 8-)

I think I won't put SP2 on until I have upgraded my video card. I think I read somewhere SP2 is not good with Geforce 7900GS cards - and thats what I have. Thank you - volunteer

Theirs also going to come a time when you need it to use some software or a new aircraft that requires it.

Indeed

I think it's better to install it now
Now you may have some trouble, and eventually have to fix 10 planes.
Later there will be a huge load of scenery and planes - and for 100% a clean install will be needed

I spotted a few neat planes converted to FSX and SP2 lately, extolling the fact that they adhered fully to the SDK.  Sounds good, time for a download, looks like they`re making the changes at last!

Ha ha, no VC and no windows, they put a lot of work into the conversion  ;)  Thank god for the recycle bin!

Yep, a lot of "conversions" you can see around are quite fake. Missing windows or cockpits (transparency) etc... most of the times, the guys are just modifying the 2D panel to include some compatible gauges, and that's it.

Fortunately, some GREAT GUYS like Tim Conrad are making real SP2 updates of their models. Have you tried the new version of the OV-10 Bronco ? It rocks :)
