Acceleration carrier with GPS, showing promise

Postby reider » Mon Dec 31, 2007 2:05 pm

I`m working on two versions of the FSX aircraft carrier which allow GPS route planning to/from it and is treated as an airport. Currently, this is fully working in both versions.

I`m not going to release it yet, this is an update on progress only and to gauge if people can see a use for it. Also, its a chance to see if anyone else is working on it and possibly compare notes.

Version 1 is a simple two files added to the Add Ons folder and start FSX

Version 2 is a single file added to the add ons folder and deft use of aicarrier2.

More details as it progresses

Version 1:

I now have a bare airport with no runway/taxiway, out at sea near Plymouth UK-close to EGHD. The Aircraft carrier loads by default but has no facilities like arrestor cable/catapult. Though I suppose these could be added.

Advantages:

If all you want is take off and landing for the EH101, f18 and similar then it does the job. Its also locatable by GPS as airport EG51, and a route can be followed to and from it.

Lots of planes, helicopter and other vehicles on board.

A simple two file add on to the Add On scenery folder and no messing whatsoever. Easy to delete, though you might not wish to.

Disadvantages:

No fancy effects on the carrier, as above. Aircraft first appears very close to the water and immediate action required on start....working on this.

Version 2:

As above but no carrier loads from default. You use the one from the aicarrier2 from AVSIM and instantly load it to that given position. Then you have full features of the Acceleration carrier plus the added ability of being able to use GPS to map to/from it.

Whilst still being able to use the arrestor cable and the catapult.
