It's not just for us geeks at home anymore.  Looks like FS is finally going to be developed into a professional level simulator.  I wonder what that has in store for us?  This could be an extremely good thing...  :D

Wow!, very interesting article , with this, I know really realize that FSX is not another game ,instead its more like a real training simulator.. 8-)

They mention a movie wich I didn't like at all, according what they did say in the movie was a Playstation 2 game, and Not MS PC game.

BTW what does ESP means?  :-/

Well, I don't know how anyone else sees this, but to me, this is the equivalent of the space program impacting aviation.  So far, FS has advanced only through the auspices of MS and a few talented designers.  Can you imagine what will happen when Beechcraft or Lockheed-Martin get ahold of this?

Good times are ahead!  :D

Theoretically it will have no affect on the MSFS game end. All they have done is tapped a market which they could have tapped some time ago.

It may however lead to a larger future budget which in turn may help bloster the game product. Right now its a small step project. As it unfolds and if it takes off there can be positive attributes for the game end. Right now its just in the initial phase of starting up.

As a side joke, I hope the professional market does not see the same hardware issues as the home user but then again, when you are talking about that kind of involvement, companies like Nvidia and ATi will take much better care and notice to be sure their designs are up to par with the software.

ESP will be in 2 phases.. the first is the same engine as FSX. The second will be ESP2, or the FS11 engine (rumor)

Mr. Gates does not participate in that end of the business. He has stepped down and now focuses on the Gates Foundation with his wife Melinda. Yes, it is true I have bumped into Bill, his wife and his father several times over the years at charity functions but I do not and have never dealt with him on a business level.

As for your idea, what you are proposing is that MSFS be transferred to a proprietary rig specifically designed for MSFS use which would not be a profitable endeavor and would most likely cost more than the typical consumer would be willing to spend. On top of that, in order for such a venture to make money it would have to allow an entire genre of titles be used on it.. and they already have that, its call the XBox.

Moving MSFS to a XBox would be the death of it because it is based on add-ons and the community making it 10 fold better than the default package

It is interesting that my grandson, aged 11, an XBox devotee, has been persuaded to move to FSX because of the missions and aircraft in Acceleration.

It came as something of a surprise, but now he is using a joystick instead of the gamepad.

However I can see how ACES might consider putting out a version for the gamepad sector, but it would be catastrophic if they ever left the PC behind.   There is an extraordinary diverse world of add-ons, pay and free, hardware, including the emergence in a short time of near realistic flight decks.  It would truncate a massively energetic and creative source of ideas and developments.
