FSX Acceleration & FS9/FSX Addon Aircraft

Postby idahosurge » Fri Nov 23, 2007 1:33 pm

I believe that I read somewhere that people had problems with their FS9 and FSX addon aircraft working properly after installing FSX Acceleration/SP2.

Are there problems?  I have a lot of FS9 and FSX addon aircraft that I have downloaded from this site and others that I want to keep flying.  I also have MegaSceneryX addons along with UTX USA/Canada and FEX and right now these work great and I wonder if Acceleration/SP2 will mess them up.

I am interested in FSX Acceleration soley for the FA18.  Right now FSX runs great on my computer and I do not have any problems.

Acceleration has sent my sim back a couple of FS versions over all. I can successfully move a whole FS9 aircraft file into FSX without any problems, but I have not been able to convert a texture from FS9 to work in an FSX aircraft (in other words, I can't get all the different FSX views on the FS9 Aircraft). If you want Acceleration just for the F18, my advice is just move it over from FS9. The cockpit views are the exact same in Acceleration as they are in FS9. It seems SP2 is a dud, I'm not interested in the missions, helicopter and the P51 has the fuel cell on only one side (no fun unless racing). There are some tweaks that can be made on Acceleration, but it is still FS9 quality at best. At the moment it seems FSX+SP1+UTUSAX or whatever terrain & weather meshes is the way go. Acceleration is a strike out in my book. These are just my thoughts and experiences with these set ups on my rig. Hope this helps. Semper Fi, Dave

Many, many FS9 aircraft that are imported into FSX-Acceleration\SP2 suffer from  "Sp2 induced"  problems
with textures. The most common being that props, when viewed outside the cockpit, are either solid
discs or become totally transparent when viewd again clouds or scenery objects on the ground.

The other major problem is that in the VC a panels background texture will become "reflective: if
ANY light is switched on...Nav, landing, Panel, etc. In the case of a HUD, the HUD becomes reflective
and renders the aircraft unusable with lights on. Also, with lights OFF, many textures become totally
transparent which means you have sections of the VC that you can see through.

It's really a sad state of affairs since ACES will not be publishing any further updates to FSX.

Some of the above "SP2 induced" problems can be partially corrected with kludges but most would
require the original designer to redo the model using the FSX-SP2 SDK. Something that is very
unlikely to occur given the scarcity of pure FSX-compatible developments to date.
