What's causing this scenery glitch?

Postby retrovertigo » Thu Aug 09, 2007 4:42 pm

This glitch keeps popping up in the same place and reloading the game doesn't fix it. It's not the end of the world but a similar one has occured right along a landing strip on one of the missions, which makes landing a tad difficult as you can imagine :)

Here's a screenshot: http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1391/1064237977_f8f7c9dde1_o.jpg

I'm hoping this can be cured without a reinstall as I have only just done one when I installed the service pack. Thanks.

Ahem, that would be what we call an MS screw up or nice surprise.  It happens, no simple way to fix it.

In FS9 at SYKM there's a 70,000 foot tall spire and a 100,000 foot deep hole among other similar errors.

Oh, and BTW, you need to upload all your images to SimV http://www.simviation.com/yabbupload.html

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

Yep its the mesh.

Buy or get freeware mesh - it is usually at a higher LOD - level of detail or resolution than the default. Taburet and others have masses of freeware in the FS libraries, while FSGenesis, or Extreme Landscapes or Global 2008, Red Baron scenery for NZ.... or, or... are available as payware..... and of course photographic scenery is the best of all, but expensive and a massive user of storage - but the Megascenery X products are beginning to appear - Horizon Simulation have done a brilliant England and Wales.

Payware mesh has some of the same problems, voids or pyramids, cliffed lakes and the like.  But good producers like FSGenesis put out updates to correct these faults.

re: uploading images. Ah ok, I thought that rule was just for people who had taken nice pictures and - well, wanted to show off :) I thought by hosting I'd save time for anyone on 56k. I'll know next time :)

As fo the glitch, fair enough if it's one of those things. I'll look into getting some new mesh. The runway I encountered made things tricky as you needed to land and then park to the side, a bit awkward when the runway was raised 20 feet off the ground :)

That England and Wales scenery package is amazing!!! The price has made me wobble a bit though! :-/
