Add-On plane problem...

Postby bowler_man » Tue Jul 17, 2007 8:04 pm

Okay, so whenever I get an add-on plane, I use the default 2-D panel from FSX for the add-on (usually the 737-800 panel for large jets). When I fly the add-on, this altimeter/airspeed indicator doesn't do anything:

It always reads 0 for the altitude and for the airspeed. Also, it always reads 29.92 no matter what I set the altimeter to. Is there a way to fix this? It works fine in the default FSX jets...

Is it possible that these sections from the B737-800 aircraft.cfg could hold the answer? I'm guessing the second entries may relate to the backup altimeter/airspeed gauge.

[altimeters]
altimeter.0=1
altimeter.1=1

[airspeed_indicators]
airspeed_indicator.0=1
airspeed_indicator.1=1

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

Okay, well, that's probably it, but what would happen if I put the default 737-800 aircraft.cfg file into say a POSKY 737-700, A321, (etc)?

Not a good idea....that would upset nearly everything i'd guess.

Just look in the aircraft.cfg of the ac in question and try adding/modifying the sections to see if it works. Backup the files before editing.

Even if it was a very similar model, like a 737-700?

Or is it a matter of publishers of the model?

Much of an aircraft.cfg file is specific to that ac and how that author defines it. Even with identical ac by 2 different authors,  the results will not be pretty...   :'(

I experimented and those sections do effect the gauge's operation. My guess is the add-on's aircraft.cfg is from FS9 and those sections are missing (these are apparently new definitions in FSX and tied to new FSX gauges).

Open the aircraft.cfg file in notepad. If you should find the sections, just edit them to read the same as I posted. If their not there just copy and paste the 2 sections to the end of the file.

As always, back up any file before editing.
