Airplane Erased

Postby Meck » Mon May 07, 2007 6:28 am

Hey,

does someone know how the planes are linked to a mission?
My problem: I erased a few texture of the default Bell Jetranger (stupid!) and now, though I can play the mission, don't see the shape of the helicopter.
My question: is it possible to change the texture/plane used in a mission? (Yes, I know the possibility of reparing/reinstalling a programm, but in an other way?)

Thx Meck

P.S.: please don't judge me by potential mistakes - I'm Bavarian... :-X

Did you delete the model folder or the texture folder? If you deleted the model folder or anything else other than texture folders, you must reinstall or repair installation; also check recycle bin.

If you deleted only some texture folders, you can try repairing installation by inserting fsX disk one. If that doesn't work check recycle bin, if the if that doesn't work then:

Go to were you installed fsX to. Then open up the sim0bjects folder then the Rotorcraft folder then the Bell206b folder. There should be 13 diferant textures; texture - texture.1, through to texture.12. Find the missing folder through the processor of elimination (eg. Texture.12 is there, Texture.11 is there, texture.10 is there, whoops texture.9 isn't there, THAT is the missing folder that I deleted).

Open up aircraft.cfg and find "texture='last number of the missing folder here'". Then all you have to do is change the X in texture=X to the number of another texture folder that IS there. You can also change ui_variation and description to change the subtype and the description repectively.

Example: I accidently deleted a texture folder called 'Texture.9', I know this was the missing folder as it is the only folder that isn't there. I would then open up aircraft.cfg and find texture=9 then change the value of 9 to another number of a texture that is there and one that I like. I then could optionally change the ui_variation to match to textures. Same with the description.

You can change type of aircraft used in missions, I do not know how to do this and I would think that you'd need the SDK.

Hope this helps.

P.S: I would just reinstall.

If FSX is anything like FS9 was the plane and texture that a mission uses are decided at the time of the mission creation. So when you make a mission you select the aircraft and the variation you want to use.
If you have deleted a variation than that mission will not work correctly you could just rename a varition to the one you deleted or put a different one in its place but untill you put back what you removed the mission will not work correctly. The other option you would have would be to remake the mission. 8-)
