clean bootup - lightens the load?!?

Postby volunteer » Wed Apr 18, 2007 2:36 pm

On the FSX website it says that any multiplayer problems will be helped by running msconfig and not loading any unessential programs on next boot up. MS include those that can be swiched off as firewalls and virus scanners. But without these wouldn't you be opening the way to virus attacks - or would being within FSX environment protection enough??
thank you - volunteer

you would be more vulnerable to viruses and worms. I'd rather keep my comp safe than better performance,

Then again, you could use simple batch files to start and stop your security programs with a double click.

Google might know more about that...

Shutting down my anti-spyware and anti-virus programs (I have 3gig of memory) does help at all settings in FSX, but I make sure that I also disconnect my modem before I do so...that's why I never use Real World Weather or play on-line. Many times I have been trying to complete a flight with my modem connected and my anti-spyware and anti-virus programs enabled, only to have FSX shut down when the security programs were automatically updating or catching something. Also, with my anti-spyware and anti-virus programs enabled, the performance and frame rates in FSX decrease to the point where I can't play the sim anymore (again, I have 3gig of memory).
Hope all is well in your world today

Ideally, you should have a firewalled router and the most vulnerable Windows ports closed.
With that, you are at least basically safe from bad stuff.

I haven't had a virus, trojan and spyware in ages. And the only thing I use is Antivir and Spybot for the occasional scan.
I also fly with real world weather and my PC is constantly connected to the internet.

Your fortress doesn't always need armies for defense. A few cleverly placed walls will do as well. ;)
