FSX troubles...are they worth it?

Postby GoingBoeingPA » Thu Apr 19, 2007 2:23 pm

This is my first post so I hope it works ok.

The images are of the standard issue FSX B747 repainted as NW Cargo. The problems shown occur for all of the liveries. I have read many of the posts from very enterprising individuals that include very good tweaks but none have corrected these problems.

When I turn on panel lights I get bright exteriors and when I takeoff the flaps & slats flex but the wings do not.

WinXP SP2
Dual Xeon 3GHz
Nvidia Quadro 4 980 XGL
2GB RAM

I am tempted to go into a tirade voicing my current opinion of the product but that will help no one. I am wondering if anyone else has seen these problems and what they did to correct them in the interest of helping others.

Thanks and good luck!

Thanks - I have suspected the video card for awhile now. It's hard for me to justify spending $$$ for a $ program though. Is the wingflex handled by the videocard as well?

Sorry, I deleted my original post by accident when I went to edit it   ;D

The Quadro cards are designed for rendering work, not games and that will make a big difference in how well games play... but I would think the animations would work right none the less

I am not sure why you are seeing this problem. I assume you have 'advanced animations' enabled in the Sim?

Have you replaced or tweaked things using any texture or file hacks?

If not and the settings are correct, it sounds like either a driver issue related to the cards or some type of corrupt install.

I have enabled advanced animations and then tried disabling them to no avail. I installed what I believe to be the latest video drivers and I have also followed some of the tweak guides that I've found here and elsewhere but nothing too deep, mostly changes to settings - no text file edits for example. Other aircraft are fine (A321 and the CRJ) without any of these problems. All airport taxiway & runway signs display in the bright colors at all times. It looks like the B747 is a carryover from FS2004 and perhaps that has something to do with wingflex on this system. Strange... and a shame the poor B747 suffers from it.

It looks like we're all awaiting SP1 so I'll just add my name to the list for now. Thank you again for the replies.

I could be wrong but I have a sneaking suspicion that is a result of the downloaded files.  I have seen a similar thing when someone has tried to change say a texture meant for a 737 to a 747 or vice versa.  Though the output is more like a patchwork quilt effect.  I really cannot see SP1 correcting this.  The default planes should be ok as they are unless the files have been worked on in any way.  They all work off one base file unless not used in the default 747 folder.

Hi,
I got this problem too. I resolved it changing  "SmallPartRejectRadius" line to a value lower than 4

Hope this can help you.
