Problem Loading FSX

Postby Bubblehead » Fri Apr 06, 2007 10:50 am

I have tried loading FSX into my new PC however it kept quitting during the load process indicating  problems with  different .bgl files , showing different error codes 1304, Windows Delayed Write Failed.
In at least two attempts, it completed until in asked for Disc 2 but when I inserted the CD, it kept repeating to insert the CD. The drive is good cause it worked on other DVD discs. I also tried two other DVD drives and the problem persisted.

One thing I noticed was that when it showed Error 1304. Error Writing to file "F:\Microsoft Games\scenery\cvx 2511.bgl", there seemed to be something missisng in the path. There was no mention of folder "Flight Simulaotr FSX".

Any advice?

Is your new PC using Windows Vista? If so, you may need to go to Microsoft Support for the answer or request information from others here who are using Vista.

I got WinXP Home Edition. I tried loading FSX again and I got to the point where it asked for Disk 2. When I inserted it, there was a momentary appearance of a black window but it continued to ask for Disk which I already inserted. I aborted the load - again.

For some reason this doesn`t affect everyone but as its a new machine and you probably haven`t got a lot on it make sure Nero, Norton, Partition Magic or anything like that is uninstalled.  Try installing FSX, then put them back on afterward.  Its heavily protected against piracy or the possibility, so much so it will report an empty DVD disk even when we know it has the stuff on it.

I've looking all over for what's causing the problem but is it concievable that it could be problem with the FSX CDs? I tried loading it in another computer but still no joy.. a different error code this time. Also when I tried to load it directly to the root directory it won't let it but the fact of the matter is that I have FXS and FS9 loaded directly in the root directory of my other PC. What gives?

This is getting too frustrating. I bought a new copy of FSX and tried loading it. Beautiful until it asked for Disk 2. Then nothing happens automatically or when I click OK. Same thing that was happening with my other copy. i tried three different hards disks, tried three different optical disks, tried different paths, tried two different PCs, did most of the things MS suggested but still no joy. I cannot return the softwares to get my money so it looks like I'm stuck with two useless flight silulator games and a new powerful computer I cannot load the games to.

Did you check your machine for Nero, Norton, Partition Magic and any similar as suggested? Got no reply to #3 in this thread, but its often the cause because of the protection on the disk to prevent copying or installing, backing up the drive and uninstalling then installing on another machine, restoring the backup so you have it on more than one.  Its definately worth a try for the time it takes to uninstall anything that may cause this.

On one machine I checked the disks went from showing completely empty and not installing to installing without a problem.  All that was done was to uninstall these programs, MS is not advertising this problem, no wonder really......  Though it doesn`t affect all machines.

That's a generic installer message. Error writing to a file:

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa372835.aspx

Could be as mentioned above a problem with antivirus or other utility programs or as you said possibly a bad disk. You might want to ask Microsoft tech support about that if you can't pin the cause down easily.
