And games like Lock On can reflect everything without halving performance.

Lock-On is no comparison.

Well, it's till pethetic the reflections are either on or off. With reflections on it halves fps. WIth reflections off the water looks terrible, IMO, worse than fs9. They should of atleast implemented some Lock On style water where it gives a slightly fps hit.

but wat i wanna see is 3d swells using the geometry shader in DX10.

I think the water in FSX looks great, yet at the same time its overly artistic as compared to real life (and I do fly).  Such as too much reflection, and still too wavy at high altitudes.  They do look more alive than most FS9 water though.

At least the water reflections in FSX don't bleed and the waves don't pulse up and down like they do in FS9.

And more on the retarded water in fsX.

On 1.0x water the water looks like Flight Simulator 2002.
With water on LOW 2.0x the water looks like a flat texture with some bump mapping
With water on Medium to high it looks amazing yet the game runs like utter crap, even though other applications have been capable of handling these effects for years without a low frame rate.

Water on 2.0x in most of Europe makes the water look retarded.

the inland water like lakes in FSX look more like lakes of mercury or something.  just too shiny and stuff.  the water needs less reflectivity.  even the water in GTA:SA look better, and they dont hav any reflection...  AND in GTA:SA the water swells!
