This is probably an old one to most, but I`m including it for those like me who didn`t know about it. The original idea in FSX called for there being an ability to log in as a casual observer. It was shelved for various reasons, not least of which was probably the lack of airport traffic at some locations and the probability that some would lose interest.
Now I don`t know about you, but I regularly go to airports, even the little tiny private (club) ones like Barton Airfield near Manchester and watch to my hearts content. I have my traffic ramped up high on my setup, its going even higher in the morning (its 3.35am now, lol). Easy enough to turn it high temporarily..... but why?
It seems there is a hack to get into the tower as an observer, I just read it in a blog whilst looking for something totally unconnected-as usually happens. It was according to reports first found in AVsim, I read it in the Blog and thats where I`m going to give the details from. Unfortunately only for Deluxe Version Users, sniff!
Basically, Open multiplayer, log in (I logged in on the LAN) just as Fred or whatever name I used. Told it I wanted to host a session, I wanted to be a lumberjack (oops, different erm game)-er I meant air controller. Set up the airport and time of day. Saved it, pressed back a few times, til I could go to free flight, loaded the saved game and entered the control tower. Hint, press every button half a dozen times on your joystick til you discover what you can do and see. Yes, you can turn ATIS off (nuisance), listen to traffic, tower, ground chatter etc.
Now, you have to save it like this for every airport you want to slip in the back door of the tower for, but its soon done. You can set a few up in advance, I`m doing Manchester, Liverpool, Barton Airfield (if possible) and Humberside. Heres the one I tested it at in New Zealand-very busy......
