ILS

Postby chris49 » Thu Feb 15, 2007 12:36 pm

ok, so i was on the ILS to runway 15 at Birmingham, england.
i was in the default A321, i had the visibility down to 1/2 a mile.
i was about 16nm out according to the DME. i was going in fully automated, and then, for no reason, at about 10nm out, the plane went into a 40 degree nose up attitude.
i took off autopilot, then put her level again with about 6nm to go.
i got at the correct altitude, and direction, then turned it on again, only to find that it does the same thing again.
what the heck happened?

How much fuel were you carrying?

Sounds like you were ignoring your airspeed and the a/c was approaching the stall

Doesn't suprise me at all - I was flying the default 747 downwind for 09L at Heathrow the other night having followed my usual departure, cruise and descent check lists. I was speaking with a VATSIM controller when the outside view went completely black and all 4 engines stopped simulatansously. My first thought was "Program Exception!" but the engines were spooling down and the instruments were working just as if I'd cut the fuel. A quick check told me I had loads to spare and since I disabled the 'Failures' feature I could only shrug and disconnect from VATSIM with embarrassed appologies.

Not only that, the autopilot in the default 747 occassionally forgets how to fly and sends it into a steeper and steeper climb until the engines are screaming and the plane stalls.

And did I mention the pushback doesn't work? (Yes, in a different topic....)

Sigh. I love this simulator so much, why can't it love me back???

I'm going to try a re-install tonight and report back.

does fuel make a difference?

Sure does, you may have been carrying enough fuel to take you over the maximum landing weight of approx 75,000 kg for the A321 - so with too much weight, your speed of 180kias may have been insufficient, leading to an eventual stall & the autopilot trying to maintain the correct height by pulling the nose up.

:)
