HDTV

Greetings!

I recently purchased a HDTV and the first thing I did was connect my computer to if for some High Def. Flight Sim.

In order for my desktop to show up correctly on the HDTV I have my resolution set at 1152x648. The issue I'm having is that FSX states upon startup that it does not support a resolution below 1024x720 and then if forces me to change my desktop (and the game) to 1024x720. This wouldn't really bother me except that I lose about 20% of my gaming screen.

I have talked extensively with Microsoft about it and they insist that its a limitation of my graphics card. I'm hesitant to believe them since I can play other games with that resolution.

I'm wondering if anyone else has played FSX on a HDTV and if so what setting are being used.

Thanks

I would have to say MS is probably correct.

I have come across the same problem. From what I can conclude, the problem is not inherent w/ the video card but of the HDTV itself.  My TV (YMMV) only supports  true HD resolutions, being either 1280 X 720 or 1920 x 1080 for a 720p/1080i TV.  Any other resolutions that I try are just blacked out on the HD, FSX or other game.  I tried running at 1920 x 1080, but I get way too much screen flicker in window mode that I cannot see straight.  Full-screen flying mode looks perfect however for the same resolution.  I think THIS is the limitation of the card they may have told you of.
I run an ATI X800 w/ 256mb ram, but will have an x1800XT shortly, so I can verify that theory soon.

I hope this helps you in your search, because I have spent many hours already on this same problem.  For the moment, I simply run in 1280x 720 with the bottom of the windowed screen cut off for lack of a better fix.

Thank you for your response, I'm also running a X800 and would be interested in your results with your new card. The only resolution I've been able to come up with is to run the resolution at 1280x720 (which cuts off the edges) and then go from full screen to window mode and fit the window to fit my screen.

I can run on some high resolutions and it fits my screen great but I get way to much flicker. The only part that I don't get is that I can play Half Life 2 on the resolution of 1152x658 which is the perfect res. but it's the one that I can't get fsx to support.
