Possible to switch to a nearby parked aircraft?

I thought I read something a while back about being able to hop into a nearby parked aircraft.

Is it possible? I ask this because...

In the "Executive Transport" mission, after landing the Learjet, I see that Russian boat/plane thing parked. Naturally, my first thought is "Gee, I sure would like to take that for a spin."

You can join someone else's aircraft in multiplayer. In some aircraft there's even a right seat. And you can take turns controling it.

You can't switch to an AI plane though.

One of the missions in FSX allows you to switch to another aircraft nearby. It's the one where you drop flour bombs over floating rafts.
