Only two ways around this, try the tweaks listed in the FSX FAQ post at the top. One of the quickest tweak is while running FSX, ctrl-atl-delete to your task manager, and under 'processes' right click on 'fsx.exe' and set the priorty to 'high'. This helps a little. Don't click 'real time' though, I guess it locks up the puter.
I also did the the one using the DDS converter to change the default textures in the sim to dxt1 instead of dxt5. As well as the tweek to change the number of trees in autogen.
There's things you can do to get some more fps, but upgrading is the only way to any dramatic results. Search around the forum, try out the tweaks.
