I still have my original DVD version of FSX, and its Jewel Case with the registration details, as well as the Steam version.
I actually prefer to use my DVD version, rather than have to transfer all my many files over to my Steam version.
So far, everything works top-notch, and I haven't needed to re-install it for a number of years now!
I keep ALL my registration, Internet and Forum log-in, etc, details in a "paper book" for ultimate safety!.... ;) ...!
In the event of my sudden demise, all the important details are instantly available to everyone who needs to know them!
Computer, Hard drive, USB Thumb-drive, Floppy drive, etc, storage, is doomed to fail...it always does..... It's designed that way!!.... ....!

I had both as well. I still have my FSX Deluxe DVDs together with the Acceleration DVD. I used it for many years until FSX Steam appeared.
Once I installed FSX Steam, I couldn't find a single reason at all to keep FSX boxed.
That is the point: if one has FSX Steam installed, there is really no reason at all to go back to the FSX boxed.

I haven't noticed any great improvement with SE over the boxed version. I actually prefer the latter.

I never had a problem until Microsoft released that update they called the creator update that is when the problem started after the update finished I went to fly using FSX Gold edition that is when I discovered it was no longer activated.
so I had no choice but to uninstall FSX which was another problem as it did not show up in my programs to uninstall. I had to use REVO and finally managed to uninstall it I checked to make sure there were no folders any where and removed any that I found. I than ran the unlocking tool so I could reinstall FSX. I than rebooted and installed FSX with no problems I ran it so I could activate it and no problems I than installed Acceleration but I never got the screen to activate it so I ran FSX again to see if it would activate there but no luck and that is when I discovered that FSX was now deactivated. I went through this procedure a few times trying to get acceleration to let me activate it but no luck
I finally gave up and manually installed SP1 and SP2 but I still have those wired problems from time to time. It only seems to do it when I go into spot view or I change aircraft in the middle of a flight I loose the menus at the top and sometimes cannot see the aircraft in spot view let alone buildings at airports they just disappear. If I try using the CRTL + enter I get a huge screen and when I try to change back it goes back to the same view as before no menus and no buildings I wind up restarting FSX
The worst thing about it is it does not do this all the time I have flown complete flights with no problems at all so it is hard trying to figure out what is causing this.
That is where I am at Today I am going to try using the compatibility method and see if I have the same problems. If that does not work than I just might throw in the towel and give up.
The last thing I want to do is to play around with my registry as that is like playing around with NITRO GLYCERIN with a bad case of the shakes. :violin:
