Norton and FSX/P3d

Postby pete » Wed Oct 04, 2017 6:58 am

Having found myself waiting a stupid amount of time for P3D or FSX to load, I switched off Norton Security (& also cancelled my subscription which I had to do by phone!) and all was well again. P3D loaded in a few seconds and changing airport/aircraft etc again was as it should be - seconds.

So anyone with a slow sim load and using Norton (Possibly other 'security' software also??) - try disabling it for a short time while P3D or FSX loads. It certainly speeded up my sim big time!
Norton seems to want to be in charge of your system. No software should ever do that. YOU should be in charge of your system - and if you get infected? Well you only have yourself to blame. My advice is to find another security software. Norton even makes it difficult to uninstall and discontinue subscriptions.
Disabling is easy - right click little '^' botton right of your screen. Left click the little Norton icon and 'disable smart firewall' and 'disable auto protect' - it will give you the option of resuming protection in however many minutes.

Can't say I'm surprised. I wouldn't touch Norton with a prong. *

Roger that! I’ve had bad experiences with Symantec (Norton) in the past. The image of the “Doctor” ripping bits out of the machine is bang on the money – the B*****D wrecks your computer! :(

Many, many Moons ago I was having all sorts of annoying problems with Symantec's "Norton", and quickly found out that there was no way to successfully uninstall it from my hard drive.
Once its there, its there!
I actually think it was designed to prevent uninstallation!

In the end, I had to completely FORMAT my Hard Drive and lose everything on it to ensure that it was completely gone, and then reinstall all my favourite programs again.

A mixture of AVG. Malwarebytes, Spybot Search and Destroy, and Glary Utilities appears to keep my computer clear of any nasty infections, etc...and all for FREE!

Symantec's "Norton" can be more annoying than that bloke from Nigeria ....and they both cost you loadsa money! .... ....!

The only good; "Norton", has two wheels and an engine..... and goes quite fast! ... 8-) ...!

Paul.... ;) ...!
Win 8.1 64-bit. DX11. Advent Tower. Intel i7-3770 3.9 GHz 8-core. 8 GB System RAM. AMD Radeon HD 7700 1GB RAM. DVD ROM. 2 Terra Byte SATA Hard Drive. Philips 17" LCD Monitor. Saitek Cyborg X Fly-5 Joystick. ...and a Briggs and Stratton Petrol Lawn Mower.

I don't know about Norton, but in some other antivirus programs, you can define some "exclusions" to explicitely tell the antivirus to ignore some processes or folders. Did you try to set this in your Norton ?
