Maybe, in your scenery library list, delete that entry, then activate it again. Rebooting after deleting, if it is FS2004.
Also, copy & paste the listing, so we can see what the problem could be.

What this is telling you is there is a missing file or a missing folder. When you add scenery you have to tell FSX where to find the scenery at. Default scenery is in the main scenery folder of FSX some people put addon scenery in the addon scenery folder. Some scenery in your scenery cfg file is pointing to a folder that no longer exist. if you look at your scenery cfg file you will notice each scenery has a number assigned to it this is the order in which scenery is loaded
Area 001 is the very first scenery. You can try the following First find and rename your current scenery.cfg file to Scenery.bak then when you start up FSX it will build another scenery.cfg file
this should solve the problem unless you have removed part of a scenery. Once you no longer get the error message you can than compare the two files to find out what was missing from the first file.
The other option is to check each entry to make sure it is pointing to the correct place to find that scenery at.
If you are still having problems send me a private message and when I get home I can show you an example of what each entry in your scenery cfg file should look like. I am at work right now and do not have access to my system. But I will be more than happy to help you any way I can

Good luck

Hi and welcome!

Precise solution can depend on your windows version and maybe the FSX version (FSX/FSX Acceleration/FSX Steam?) as well as what other stuff you've added/removed.

This resolved it in Steam for someone -- but the solution here was uninstall/reinstall. (which you say you have done..)

Location of my (w10) scenery.cfg file. C\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX

Mine is pretty well default (keep like that on purpose - & here is what it says regarding Area.001

[Area.001]
Title=Default Terrain
Texture_ID=1
Local=Scenery\World
Layer=1
Active=TRUE
Required=TRUE

What does yours say? If you have tried all --- It sounds a bit of a mess and maybe you need to again uninstall (uninstall in windows - not delete folders!) - then re-install bit by bit - and check things along the way.

MY scenery cfg file is exactly the same as Pete's

did you try to rename and restart I suggested?

There has to be a problem with your default scenery

open your FSX scenery folder and make sure you see a folder labeled 001 and there are bgl files in it

Also if you can get FSX running open up the scenery library and check to see if you have default scenery and default terrain on my FSX these are the last two entries
now mind you they do not have to be last but have to be somewhere

I would point out that there are several FSX Scenery.cfg files in various locations. The active file is here --> C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX\

This is the Area.001 entry on mine.

[Area.001]
Title=Default Terrain
Local=Scenery\World
Texture_ID=1
Layer=1
Active=TRUE
Required=TRUE

It points to my FSX\Scenery\World\Scenery folder. As has been mentioned, if this folder is missing or contains no BGL files you will get the above error on starting FSX.

This applies to Windows 7, 8 & 10.
