SCENERY LOST !!!! or not showing.....

Postby rigg37 » Mon Aug 22, 2016 12:47 pm

Help please - I'm not new to Simming but I feel like a beginner.... I've used FS2002, FS2004 and now FSX for many years... I recently put a new drive into my FSX PC and put a new install of Windows 10 onto it. Nothing elsde has changed but now I can't see ANY add on scenery and I'm clueless.
Installed FSX and Acceleration then Horizon VFR for northern England - just as before.
I try to add some scenery into all the places it has previously gone - addon scenery\scenery or just the files into addon scenery. I add area in scenery library (though I can't get a name to show !!) and nothing is visible.
I'm wondering what box isn't ticked or what simple thing I may have done wrong.
Next I try installing a UKScenery Demo to see what happens and nothing is visible apart from the runways and trees.

I've done it many times before and it has worked fine.

Any suggestions would be VERY welcome.

Okay lets go back a minute or two here
You state you replaced or installed a new hard drive and than installed a new version of Windows 10 on it .
1st question is did you uninstall FSX prior to installing the new windows?
2nd question what happened to the original version of windows 10? Did the disk go bad and you had to replace it?

When you installed the new version of Windows 10 you know that it completely wiped out your registry
so if FSX was installed the new widows will not know where it is at.
Even if you installed windows 7 or windows 8 first and than did the update you would still have the same problem
I need to know exactly the steps you took or otherwise it is just a wild guess as to what is happening here,

Hi, thanks for the response.
New WD 1TB disc Old 500gb still around somewhere.
Installed Windows 7 and used the last few days of the free upgrade to install Windows 10 - just the same as done previously many months ago.
PC fully updated and then install FSX - which works fine.
Then install Horizon VFR scenery - which displays fine.
Now I try to add a few aircraft - all goes well
Now I get to adding some scenery - nothing displays
Baffled......

Hi Steve. I don't know if this might help. The procedure is the same in Windows 10. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8kO1IsJMuE

The you tube video is a great post and as stated probably the problem here. Perhaps this video should be made a sticky for others to find it quickly. Sounds like a great idea to me.
I discovered if you add new scenery to a folder that has all ready been added to FSX it will automatically add the new scenery the next time to crank up fsx.
But some people like to keep scenery in a unique folder so they can find it easily. But all you have to do is to put that folder inside another folder and it will add itself.
But like I stated it is up to each individual as to how they want there scenery.

The video forgot that AFTER adding scenery & OKeying it, you have to close FSX & re-open it again :shifty:

That's true for FS9 but not FSX.
