bout like that Disasterous Windows Vista they churned out back a few years ago,, Ughhhhh - what were they thinking ???? or , were they ????

Gee, makes one wonder how Microsoft Windows in its many versions has become the most successful, most widely used operating system with the biggest library of commercial and free software in the history of computers! And, as many old hardware owners know, Vista runs pretty well now with its service packs and patches. Little secret that should be mentioned, too: the beloved Windows 7 is fixed Vista, much like Windows 10 is fixed 8.

At the university where I work, we are deploying Windows 10 with few problems. No surprise that we identified a 9-year-old industrial-grade graphics scanner that has no drivers, and won't run on Win10. And I ran into a .Net 2.0 program from Kodak which doesn't like .Net 3.5.1 on Windows 10. The free Classic Shell alternative desktop pretty much eliminates any training requirements for Windows XP/Vista/Win7 users, is a must have. Otherwise, I expect most of our computers will be running Windows 10 by this time next year, unless old hardware proves to be a problem.

I remember seeing the same kinds of moans and complaints from Windows 98 users when XP rolled in. Then again when Windows 7 made its debut, and began to supersede XP. It seems to be a cycle, history repeating itself, and people really do hate change. Sure, like any big authority-driven organization, the Microsofties make dumb mistakes according to the all-too-real curse, that big corporations compel people to do stupid things, usually to please their bosses, to get promoted, to be politically correct, and to make a fast buck. Windows 8 and its disastrous gui is proof enough of that. But all in all, I think the Microsoft bashing tends to go over the top, gets kind of silly at a certain point. I'd rather be working on a Windows computer any day instead of a Macintosh or some convoluted free version of Unix. History and the market show that is true for most computer users.

And maybe it should be mentioned that Microsoft and its business partners created some pretty good flight simulators (and a great train simulator too), else we wouldn't be on here, would we? That's hardly "junk". :D

Ta for the reminder on the installation of; "Classic Shell" above, Dave....>>>

It has been making my various versions of Windows very much easier and enjoyable to use, without all the clutter, with its classic layout of files and folders, etc...!

Well worth installing!

Waht confuses me the most is it is my understanding that Windows 10 was supposed to be the best of Windows 7 and 8 but somewhere it went astray because things that used to work in both
7 and 8 no longer work the same way. A good example of this is the fact I can not get my default screensavers to work because USB devices are keeping the computer awake and I have checked every single device to make sure that the box for allow this device to wake the computer is not checked. Lucky for me I have a third party screen saver so all I have to do is to click on the shortcut

Also be aware of this issue with Windows 10

This was being discussed over at Aerosoft Forums and a link to this was provided.

A WARNING ABOUT MS UPDATES FOR WINDOWS 10

Microsoft has decided to release updates that will "EAT your memory and processor" while your system runs.

This was not a mistake.

These updates are designed to "constantly collect data about your computer for Windows 10".

One of them will act like "ADWARE" and eventually pop up offering you Windows 10 !!!

Then theres this being discussed at Captain Sim's Forum as well.

" Microsoft will "collect any file you have", aside the ones you “provide”, "including anything in your private folders", including "any password", of any nature belonging to you, not limited to the computer and devices running Windows 10, or any Microsoft service.

If you encrypt a drive, Microsoft gets the key ??????????????????? :o

There is "no clause" forcing Microsoft to limit or obey any opt out, or choice you make.

I tried this and it kept coming back if you search C drive for gwx.exe it finds a lot of files. I finally got rid of it by deleting (C)/Windows/System32/GWX using Unlocker1.9.2.exe from filehippo otherwise you can't delete the file using windows7 64bit.

My last laptop had Win 7 on it but I lost it due to video went on it as far as I could tell. I got a new laptop with Win 8 on it and did not like it much. Then was able to load a start menu and boot to my desktop. So I was okay with it. Then it ask me I don't know how many times to upgrade to Win 8.1 (Win 9) and I turned it down over and over to only go to shut down to find it installing on its own. I have so far turned down Win 10 hoping it will not do the same.
My daughter upgraded to Win 10 and now she has no sound, seems like I made a good decision so far.

Wow. And the hits keep coming . . . I installed Win10 just after it became available, and I haven't had a single bit of trouble with it so far. The UAC is a bit overzealous perhaps, but once you get acclimated it becomes just a couple more mouse clicks.

And one of the FIRST things I did (which I think everyone should do) is disable all that reporting stuff Windows does. It's not hard, IF you go looking in the right places. I believe one of the threads concerning the switch-over when Win10 came out contains a link or instructions on how to disable the Win10 auto-report . . . maybe.

And considering that I don't have major issues with 10 I should count myself lucky.

The November update that was released fixed a lot of the problems in Windows 10 My screen savers are working again   But it installs way to many apps if you ask me. I have no use for things like XBOX or GROVE MUSIC just to mention a few and have uninstalled any app that will allow me to. Other apps I moved off of the start menu so they do not start up.
And turned off sharing with Microsoft valued partners. They may value them but I do not want any part of anything they have to offer.
This OS is a invasion of ones privacy if you ask me. But than you have to agree to the ULA or you can not download or install Windows 10.
They have you by the short hairs  <<u

Well it looks like the November update solved the screen saver problem. Boy I wish just once Microsoft would not release a new version of windows until they have fumigated it good. All of those bugs should have not been there  <<u
