I asked this elsewhere, but I'll here - can FSX: SE scenery & aircraft run on regular FSX?

I would say no, the installer seems to be tied to the steam version. I got a couple of mission packs and could only install to Steam. I suspect that someone will do a hack to transfer the software at some point in the future, way, way above my pay grade though.

Cheers

Here is a trick that just might work for you I have used it once or twice and it worked for me,
Rename the folder that your FSX is installed in You may have to move the FSX.EXE file out of the folder as well, Just put it on your desktop. Than when you run the installer it will not find it and either crash or ask you where to put it. It is about a 50 50 chance of either crashing or working, But as I stated it has worked for me every time I have tried it.

Hi Gary and guys. Remember, FSX Steam is loaded onto your harddrive. You can run FSX Steam in OFFLINE MODE for the rest of your life if you want to. You don't need to have anything to do with the Steam servers unless you want to. I flew a beautiful trip in the US Virgin Islands today totally offline. The Mooney and I cruised at low level over the beautiful scenery and I thoroughly enjoyed the trip. Offline mode is fine for many FSX trips and its nice to have in case your Internet service is down or some other problem occurs.

I made the switch to the Steam FSX from the boxed version and seemlessly imported all my freeware addons provided by the wonderful content creators here and at Sim-outhouse including the RealAir Lancair Legacy and Alabeo WACO YMF-5 all with 0 issues.

I noticed an immediate increase in frame rates. Something about FSX SE running better on multi core (6 cored processor here). All were very easy to import, I just installed them as usual into the FSX folder under the steamapps common directory described before. Actually the SE version solved a few very irritating issues I have with FSX box like being forced to run with the D10 preview on which took a long time and lots of irritation to correct so I could run mods besides something like doubling my frame rates. The only quirk I have noticed has appeared when I started slamming my settings to the max which is AI aircraft flickering and not being visible until <.5miles. That is getting better as I adjust my settings with my new found frame rate power.

On that note, I use a couple other Steam games regularly (Empire Total War, Wargame Red Dragon, and some others)....I also freshly moved into my first house in a small town litterally on the edge of no-where....next legitimate town is at least a hundred miles even then it is a dinky little rat hole with the next sizable non-ranch town being a couple hundred more....plus I am fully surrounded by volcanoes and other large hunks of rock....in other words, I have limited internet. I regularly run Steam games with 0 internet connection without any issues. I do not know why this myth persists that you must have a live internet connection to a server to run them....you need it to run STEAM, multiplayer, download the games initially, and use the Steam community/library/store features not steam apps which are on your computer. In fact, I have a host of launch icons on my desktop that point to those folders so I do not even open Steam to select my frequently used games.

Tailwinds,
Wahubna...runnin' FSX:SE "off the grid" fully modded with box FSX mods....where is my box version anyways???? :D

Off to conquer the world in Steam Empire Total War :ugeek:

It looks to be all good news, and nice to have a sequel turn up that's really an improvement.

Well done Steam.

Hi Oldair, I agree. I was leery of FSX Steam at first but when I saw it on sale for almost free ($13) I thought, why not check it out. Now I love it.No more "out of memory " errors happening just as I start my IFR approach after a long flight. Higher frame rates and much higher settings are treat as well. Very smooth flying is so enjoyable. I join you in saying " well done Steam".
