fsx loading

Hi,

My FSX delux 3-4 years old DVDs when inserted in the drive windows needs to check them & it carries on for hrs.

Could both DVDs be faulty & could they be replaced by MS?

I tried to contact them & their Tel.# was answered by somebody in India wanting to take control of my PC to check it.

Other DVDs ie. Office etc work fine in the drive.

Can somebody help?

...Just noticed your drives seem to be OK!...

..but I have found that some of my Flight Sim CD's and DVD's, even though protected in their Jewel Cases, have been attacked by the Dreaded CD Monster, and refuse to be located/read, etc...
...mostly because they are left running the Drive when the Sim is started (copy protection).

This has left me with purchasing new, replacement, Jewel-case copies...Amazon , etc...

Make sure they are unused!!

MS will have no interest in your "faulty" copy!

The joys of dual boot.

Am dual booting XP & W8.1

Recently with HD problems I used "Refresh" & lost FSX in the process.

As I could not reload it in w8.1 I booted in XP & the DVDs worked OK & installed & running FSX.

Now I tried the DVDs again in win8.1 & still it asks to "Run DVDCHECK.exe" & starts again rattling fast, presumably checking, for ages. I am reluctant to leave going on all day? in case the drive burns.

Have no idea about these Jewel etc.

Anybody else can help?

this is a common problem with older cd/dvd's
I have a possible fix for you.

all disk drives and disks have a certain tollerance range
an old disk that wont read on one drive (even a new drive) may read fine on another.

so, try to copy the disks on another computer and burn new disks.
this method has saved many of my older games including FSX.

The only problem here is I am not sure if you can install from a copy of FSX. I tried to copy disk 4 of FS2009 so I could use it instead of the original version but it would not work. There is a special key that you can not copy on the original disk. This is how they prevent illegal copy's.

I am using copies of fsx deluxe disk 1 and 2
there was no problem copying the disks.
the games installer does'nt know the difference.

sure, alot of software has some sort of copy protect but in this case, not fsx.

Hi nichos,
Your discs are fine. There is a known problem with the way the FSX data is encoded on the discs and and some video software. MS recommends removing the offending software. MS mentions Nero and Intervideo (I seem to recall). I have Cyberlink. I discovered the problem when I installed both Win 7 and FSX to an SSD. Initially no disc problems, as I installed FSX immediately after installing Windows. After installing Cyberlink I decided to install the SDK to a different location and had the disc problem.
Rather than remove Cyberlink I went into Safe mode and copied the disks to a hard drive and installed from it. I did discover that both FSX Deluxe discs must be copied to a single folder. And Acceleration in it's own folder.
I did not do this but I can see no reason why FSX can not be installed in Safe mode, eliminating the need to copy the the files to a hard drive. I suspect that there would be no problem if copies of the original discs were used. The encoding format would be standard and the FSX copy protection is in the activation so that would be a non-issue.

Thanx Jand....

I will definitely try the "....into Safe mode and copied the disks to a hard drive and installed from it. I did discover that both FSX Deluxe discs must be copied to a single folder. And Acceleration in it's own folder....." but, am not sure I noticed any separate "Acceleration" bit in the disks. I'll look out for it when I copy.

On the other hand some good news, manage to install & run FSX in w8.1 now.

From this side " ...http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/wind ... 0b1c6ae.... & followed the instructions except that it did not specify in an "ADMINISTRATOR COMMAND PROMPT " typed these:- cd c:\ & ENTER, cd MicrosoftKB928080 & ENTER, resetsldl -All & ENTER. It worked it out & said "success". After this FSX installed OK.
