1.7 GHZ makes it marginal at best.

Sorry - - not a chance! Especially if you are considering the iFly 737 or the pmdg 737 you asked about in your other post. You need a lot more cpu power and I suggest 8 gigs of ram.

...even a 2.8 GHz dual-core processor would be a minimum to run FSX...SMOOTHLY!
If I were you, without that, I would stick to enjoying your trusty FS 2004.

FSX eats Central Processors for breakfast!

Give ya a some what General idea of what I have to Run FSX Gold / Acceleration to really good capability

I also use Track IR and FS Widgets and sometimes a registered version of Fraps tho too,,,

plus on the Flight Simulator Machine I sometimes Paint aircraft too,,,,

My Specs :

Windows 7

64 Bit Machine

FSX Gold / Acceleration Edition / Boxed edition

12 Gigs of Ram / more for handling my paint programs tho

XFX 6950 Video Graphics Card / and a - 650 Watt Power Supply { ----------very Important to choose a power Supply that's compatible for the type of Video Graphics card you use !!!! Right Wattage to properly power that video card - very important !!! lotta mistakes made here !!!!!

Quad Core Processor

3 cooling Fans in the case itself and 2 in the Video card and 1 in the power supply itself.

I use 3 - 27" monitors

Saitek Digital Flight Yoke

Saitek Combat Rudder Peddles

Saitek Throttle Quadrant

and last but not least - 2 Liter bottle of Pepsi and some good home cookin !! :shifty:

bout it simple specs give ya a general idea anyway.

I tried to keep it simple the less I have to tinker the better I'd rather spend time Flying than tinkering with hardware and software !!

Another computer across from me is what I use for general internet and to download all the Aircraft.

Bout it, keep it simple - KISS , you'll have less problems !!

I should add that just to run FSX to a really decent ability, all one needs is 4 gigs of Ram memory, that's just for FSX Alone , NO other apps running in the background , such as Weather , That cloud program or some of these other add ons, if you plan on using REX and all those other additional payware add ons and also Track IR and Fraps you may want more RAM / Memory to handle those programs as well to their fullest capability .

Also with all these newer Bigger HD Aircraft and Airport Textures that's out, the more Ram the better and a really Good Video Graphics Card, notice I didn't say the most Expensive , but just a really Good Video card makes a lotta difference , like apples and oranges - night and day.

I ran my FS 2004 for years, using an Intel 2.8 GHz dual core processor, and a NVidia GT 9700 Graphics Card, with a 750 Watt PSU Tower.
It ran wonderfully!
It was not until I finally purchased my Gaming Tower Machine, detailed below, (signature), that I was finally ably to install and run my FSX satisfactorily...ie: SMOOTHLY, with everything maxed!

Running FSX on minimum setting is not a very happy experience!
