Missing runway and taxiway designators

Postby EVVFCX » Sat Oct 11, 2014 4:07 pm

Hi everybody,

I've had this problem for a as long as I can remember and it's a little annoying, the designators indicating which taxiway or runway your heading for tends to only have correct texture on one side and when approached from opposite direction it only displays a black box.

I've looked around the internet and it's seems to have been suggested that this is normal with a full install of fsx gold - is this right?

It's just that if you don't know the airport exactly and then depending on your direction you cannot read which taxiway your approaching etc.

Ok, the simple question is that is there anybody on SV that knows of a 'fix'

I just checked my install on just one airport. The concrete monuments that have the taxiway IDs are labelled on just one side but there are two monuments per taxiway at the intersection with the runway. Away from the runways the monuments are labelled only in one direction and if it is intended to be a one way taxiway there is no labelling in the opposite direction. I would assume that at some airfields with a single runway there is a dedicated direction for takeoffs and landings, like at Santa Monica, Ca., and the labels only face in one direction.

If you are trying to do things properly you should have a printed chart of the airports you plan to land at with all the taxiways and required direction of traffic identified. If you are just flying for fun as I do then it doesn't matter.

Hi,

Thanks for that tho I have never noticed in reality a taxiway marker with markings only one side.

I loaded up FSX, loaded one of my local airports to check a known two way taxiway to see that it's labelled as a both direction runway, need to update that bit :) even when it was a 'runway' (light aircraft only) it was still a major taxiway for commercial passenger traffic, poss cargo as well.
That particular 'runway' closed in 2005 so needs an afcad update.

I say light aircraft: I can remember parking up to watch aircraft when the atc there wanted a 737 to land on the short runway due to the wind direction, I do know the Captain had 'words' with the tower after landing :)

I have to assume then that problems I'm seeing (not seeing) are caused by FSX's atc/ground control asking me to go in directions that maybe wrong.

Taxi and runway signs are normally only printed on one side.
This is because the sign is placed before you reach the intersection it is identifying. Once passed the sign, you are looking for the next sign on your route. Looking backwards is of no use to airplanes.

Hi Guys,

I think we're getting slightly muddled here, what I'm saying and may not have made obvious is that some marking do not have markings on, I may have taxied off the runway to be told for example turn onto taxiway D off A but there is no D just a black box and it maybe that the turning onto D is only a valid safe turn from the other direction, in other words the ground control section of the atc could be wrong.

Anyway, interesting to know that another of my local airports has problems on FSX.

cheers guys
