after further troubleshooting I can conclude that it is when I log onto vatsim. ie I can run squarkbox with no issues offline.. however when I log on.. it dies..

any thoughts ?

Get with the people from VATSIM they should be able to help you out.
I used to belong to VATSIM and I remember having problems with Squak box but I for get what I did to fix the issue. Sorry that has been to long ago.

changed from squarkbox to vpilot last night and it seems to have fixed the issue.. so I guess squarkbox has a fair few bugs in it...

Glad to see you got it fixed.
I used to fly Vatsim but got tired of some of the controllers that expected you to be a Licensed pilot.

use it primarily as a tool to practice my RT for well my IRL flying.

that being said at least in denmark some of the controllers have no idea about MSAa and Danger Areas ect. I know its just a game but if they want it to be of IRL standard then they should obey those things as well.

anyways I enjoy it and it adds to my pleasure of doing it.
