A Fun Curtiss Jenny Story in Pictures

Postby Garry » Sun Sep 14, 2014 5:57 am

I just finished off another livery for the Curtiss Jenny JN4D aircraft - I have had this one in the paint pot for quiet a while - just pushing some boundaries and some fun ideas.

A closer look at the livery:

As this livery was just a fun tinker I am not sure if we will actually release the livery - but it sure was fun pushing boundaries in creating her.

Glad to hear that the story gave you a good start to the day. :D

Was just a fun livery to push the cursed multi mirrored environment of the good old Default MS Jenny to the edge

Have a good day mate.

Hi Gary,

This IS nice! Hope you make it "official". Or even better: is it possible to make it some sort of "layer" that you can have the damage on every Jenny you like?

In the meantime: thanks for the terriffic work you guys do for us!

Hi Mate,

That is a clever idea - a template for the damage effects - unfortunately there are three images you have to work with - the priciple texture, the decal and the VC view. All are DXT3 format - therefore not straightforward access - and the damage effects are on multiple layers with various methods of overlay or interaction with the basic texture.

Complexity of achieving this would possibly lead to some frustration with the textures for those that wanted to play with applying them - thereby spoiling their enjoyment of the plethora of liveries available - however, I will chew on the idea for a while and see what I can come up with.

OK - have had some thoughts about this and have sent them off to Edward for his consideration.

So that we do not mess up the comprehensive existing aircraft.cfg setup - I thinking that we could add "Damaged" Alternative textures for all of the military girls - so simmers could choose either (normal) or (damaged) livery to download to add to the specific entry for that aircraft in the aircraft.cfg file.

For those who want to have both - they could simply add another entry to their own aircraft.cfg

That way we cater to the novice simmer and the experienced simmer with alternatives.

Bear in mind this is a rod for my own back - another 25+ liveries to revisit and re-do with various layers - to accomodate the Damage for the Principle artwork, the Decal artwork and the 3D view artwork for each aircraft. Probably around an additional 30 hours for the project - not including the web site revisions that will be required to facilitate access and download of these FREE packs.

Also please bear in mind that Edward pays me for those hours - a very reasonable price - but a cost never-the-less to him and in some cases to me for the plethora of free ones I throw in - and he/we then gives them to the Simming Community for FREE.

So important to note that these may or may not get processed and released.

Regards.

Hi Mate,

Thanks for understanding - Maybe I will do a couple more of the Military girls up with the "Damaged" effects and add them and the one above to the site as an Alternative texture set near each of the normal entry. So those that are interested can add them.

Cannot advise when that will happen as we have some other things in the paint pot at the moments that Edward wants me to focus on.......

Will let everyone know when I have released them. <<q
