Typhoon textures

Postby JSF01 » Sat Aug 30, 2014 5:46 pm

I've had had trouble putting textures on the Alphasim/Virtavia EFA Typhoon. For example, using today's new textures certain parts of the aircraft are shown with color (i.e., missiles, centerline tank, engines, nose cone) while the rest of the aircraft is in black. Can someone please explain?

If something is black, FSX can't find the texture. I just checked in the preview of the BOB 2014 FGR4 Textures. They seem to be pretty complete. So if you put the directory texture.tpv to your freeware Eurofighter Typhoon from Alphasim/Virtavia directory and add the airplane reference into the aircraft.cfg (what you obviously did, else you couldn't select it), it should show up correctly. Maybe in the readme, there's an advice to copy certain textures from the standard texture directory. Did you change the directory name? Is it copied into the directory with the aircraft.cfg?

I saw what it was. It works only with the models that are in the .cfg. I tried to make it more "realistic" by changing it to the FSX Spanish AF model (even though I repeated this attempt with the FS2004 one)

It can work with another mdl version, as long it's from the same manufacturer. I had expected another variant to still have the same texture layout. From FS9 to FSX it depends, what has changed. If a developer remodelled the whole 3D design, it's likely old textures don't work anymore. If it's just a recompile to FSX standards, the old textures will work.

can you please show me how? The textures are meant for FS2004 because what I did was change from sim=conningsingleload in FS2004 to sim=spainsingle in the FSX .cfg and couldn't get the textures

sim= (insert the name of the air file)

From what I see in the virtavia Typhoon - the air file is named EFT v2.air

So --- sim=EFT v2

If it doesn't work let me know & I'll take a further look.

model= (must relate to a model folder name or left blank if the model folder is simply named 'model')

Well I went to the aircraft.cfg (in FSX) and changed the variant from clean to loaded using the SpainSingle model but the plane (except for the engines, missiles and centerline fuel tank) came out black.
