Airport Design Editor problems

Postby pcarvalho » Sun Aug 24, 2014 12:05 pm

I recently downloaded ADE and it is great. However, when I compile my airports and add them to FSX and run them, they do not work properly. I modified some existing airports, and when i ran them on FSX, my changes were there, but all existing terminal buildings/ hangars vanished. When I compile the are two files created - VHHH_ADEX_PC.BGL and VHHH_ADEX_PC_OBJ.BGL. Are these the ones I need?

Somethign else that happened was that even though my changes did appear, some jetways I added continued missing. Any idea why? Do you think its related to the problem above?

Thanks

Never mind, I fixed it. I placed the ...OBJ file in the addon scenery texture folder and the other file in the scenery folder and it works great. the only problem is that when I do this, the ATC tower disappears...

I'm no scenery design expert but BGL files located in Texture folders cannot be read by FS. By moving the _OBJ.BGL file from the Scenery folder you effectively deleted it. ADE can create different types of BGL files according to what they do. These are identified by different extensions to the basic file name.

For example:
VHHH_ADEX_PC.BGL is the basic airport BGL.

VHHH_ADEX_PC_OBJ.BGL is an Object BGL.

I copied the following from ADE Help

When you compile you will be asked to provide some information about the file name. ADE provides a default:

The ICAO Ident for the airport
The version of ADE used to create the airport
The initials of the developer.

A basic name like this without any suffixes on the name will contain the airport and may also contain scenery objects

OBJ
There is a setting that tells ADE to create a separate Bgl file for the airport and for scenery objects. If this is checked then you will get an _OBJ bgl file.
This contains scenery objects and exclusion rectangles

This would explain why your existing terminal buildings/ hangars vanished when the object BGL was installed. To fix this you could try removing the exclusion rectangles from the object BGL or it might be possible to add the missing objects to the basic airport BGL.

I've checked already, there are no Exclusion rectangles in my airport... What do I do? Any other suggestion?
