External view pan and crash

Postby Speed of flight » Sat Jun 28, 2014 12:55 am

Question, community:
I've just formatted and reinstalled all my favorite stuff back into FSX, and still tweaking and tuning. I have always had this problem, though. In the external view, I use a joystick button to pan around while looking at my majestic heavy airliner, and while admiring my aviator prowess, I'll take a look around to change the background for perhaps a great screeny (the sim pilot's "selfie") and +*BANG*+ and/or thud, blue circle, and "A fatal error has occurred". The bang/thud merely describes what it must have sounded like to cause a "fatal" crash of FSX on my system. I've found that I can use either the mouse, or the hat switch on the HOTAS, but not both. If I use one, then the other, bang and thud.

I certainly do admire the availability of both, especially on final, when I can't let go of the stick/yoke to look down at instruments. I like the smoothness of the mouse, but need the handy of the hat switch.
Is there a work around, or a thingy I don't know about? Did I screw something up, or is this a known problem and has a great fix for it?

An answer to any of those will solve the problem.

The appearance of the "Fatal error box" and shut down is a common occurrence for me.... :( .....

I find that my FSX doesn't like any changes to be made during the flight.
Once I have set up all the details of my flight beforehand, everything runs fine.
If, however, I make any changes during the session; aircraft, location, weather, time, views, effects, etc, the program will inform me that it will shut down...and it does!
My FSX doesn't like fiddling with, whilst it is running!
To make any changes requires me to end the flight, and start again with new settings.
Its very "touchy"!.... :o ....!

I know Paul dont like this UIAutomationCore.dll, but it has cured a lot of crashes and ability to change anything inside FSX, me included!
If it dont work, just delete the .dll you've put inside your main FSX folder.
Be sure you get the right version 6.0.5840.16386.

I agree with Bass.
download and install the UIAutomationCore.dll
it fixes the crash to desktop when changeing settings or views while in game.

when I did this, fsx became very stable.
I can change all settings and views and never crash.
I can even multitask while in game.
I can switch fsx to windowed mode, browse the net, run other programs, switch back to fullscreen, no problem. :D

I have never run across this one. Sometimes on long flights I will check my flight plan and find out where it will have me starting to descend. I then switch to map view click on my plane and put it within 50 miles of of the spot where i will start to descend. I than go back to FSX and wait till i see the message about closet airport i will then select the file a IFR flight plan . Open the original plan and select to find a route using high altitude air ways then I will delete all of the way points that i slew past than save it using the same name and overwrite the old plan.
Than i tell it not to move my aircraft and unpause FSX
I do have the uiautomation dll instaled.
