I am not familiar with this aircraft but I have the freeware version of the B747-200 ready for pushback, and with this aircraft you have to follow a step by step procedure as Control E will not work.
I would perform the following sequence
first make sure there is power to the aircraft
second you may have to make sure that hydraulics are on
third Start APU
fourth select bleed air to each engine than go to the throttle panel and make sure the power switch is on for each engine and click the start button.
You may also have a switch for ground power as well.
I have to first turn on the battery, than turn on the hydraulics for the apu than I have to click on the APU and wait for the APU door to open once the door light goes out I click on start. I have to wait for the APU to come up and than select bleed air, I than have to go to the bleed air panel and make sure each engine has bleed air supplied to it. I than have to go back to the main panel and select ground start for each engine.
As each engine comes up i have to go to the engine panel and make sure all of the switches are set in and that the generator is turned on

Hope this helps
Your procedure could be different.

Hi Gary,

Thanks for reply but all you have available for this piston engined aircraft is what they quote in the starting procedure text which is -

Set parking brake
Turn on fuel
Turn on battery

With all this done it still will not start so I wonder if this a problem with this item thet has been ported over to FSX.

A quick and easy solution is to start with another aircrat running and switch to that aircraft. But I appreciate this may not be what you want.

Without testing this aircraft I can't guess what it is off hand.

Thanks for your comments Pete, have tried that but the engine dies and you are back to square one so I guess it's time to give up on this one!

A workaround is to start at altitude. I don't know if this works for all aircraft but has worked for all of the manual-start aircraft I've used.

Method 1: Open the map screen and set the altitude higher than the current altitude. Allow plenty of altitude to allow for descent while starting the engine. Exit the map screen. The aircraft engine may start by itself as soon as you exit the map. If not, press Ctrl-E.

Method 2: Press the Y key to engage slew mode. Press F4 to elevate the aircraft to a sufficient altitude. Press Y to exit slew mode. Then same as above - engine may autostart or press Ctrl-E.

In multi-engine aircraft one engine may autostart and you may have to press Ctrl-E or press-and-hold Ctrl-E to start the remaining engines.

Obviously, this is not an optimal start sequence and bypasses takeoff, but it is a handy workaround when you want to test an aircraft before taking the time to learn the required startup sequence.

Have you tried starting the engine with the throttle "cracked" slightly, this is just one of the quirks of some older aircraft. <<q

Yes I have. I think there is a problem with this aircraft because I notice that after getting it airborne using the slew trick none of the flight instruments are functioning so i guess it is time to abandon it.
