Brett Hendersen's C177rg

Postby BobF » Fri Feb 07, 2014 10:53 pm

Today I downloaded Brett Hendersen's excellent FSX C177rg package (C177rg.zip here at Simviation)..
The panel and plane are great. There are camera definitions in the aircraft.cfg for the Aircraft Category (right wing, left wing, tail) and the Virtual Cockpit Category (right seat). No matter what I do with the S and A keys neither the Aircraft or Virtual Cockpit views show up. I deleted the camera definitions and replaced them with the default C172 camera definitions. Both the Aircraft and Virtual Cockpit camera definitions show up except that the x,y,z and p,b.h are not right for this plane. The C177rg camera definitions look exactly the same GUID numbers as the default C172 and seem all the same except for the coordinates.

I tried contacting Brett but the e-mail address in the package was no longer good.

I can edit the C172 camera definitions to suit the C177rg but I don't understand why his camera definitions don't even show up at all.

I know it's an old file (from 2008) but it should work.

Any help to determine what's wrong sure would be appreciated. Bob.

Curosity got the best of me, so I went and downloaded it

Link : http://simviation.com/1/search?submit=1&keywords=177rg&x=0&y=0

very bottom listing / the Green White Cessna C177 / Brett Henderson

after downloading it / NOT injecting it into my FSX

1st thing I did was inspect the files and inspect the Aircraft CFG File and how it was listed, and checked the Views, and the numbers see if anything was off.

I seen nothing off or out of whack within the cfg file.

Next I loaded / Injected it into my FSX Gold Acceleration

fired it up and went and checked the view modes, there is only 1 view for the inside VC, which corresponds with the CFG File

I cycled thru the View modes with the A key, and the S key and everything worked here on my End.

took it up for a flight and everything worked, like its supposed to.

Dunno', sure you were hitting the right keys ???

anything on your key board, button pushed or something ??

everything worked from what I went thru the tests, views, lights, engine start up, rudders, landing gear, panel pop ups, doors open/ close etc.

Maybe, just maybe, you've got a Poltergeist in your key board, call a Priest !! :D :D :D :D

I Just got off of Skype with a friend of mine that has the exact plane installed in his FSX. We went step by step loading the plane together. He has exactly the same problem. Using the "S" and "A" keys the Aircraft views (right and left wing and tail views do not show up at all. The VC right seat does not show up either. What is strange is the if you select New View from the menu they do show up.

Hi Brett. I just resent you an e-mail and included a copy of the rejection of the e-mail. I hope you receive it this time.

Please note that there is nothing wrong with my "S" or "A" key on my computer. I have installed, uninstalled and tried the original files and they did not work. When I cut and pasted the C172 views they do work. That proves that my keyboard is OK, and the fact that my friend had the same proble confirms it.

Thanks and best regards, Bob.

Ummm ~ Well, I have to eat crow on this one :o

I went back to the C-177-RG and after loading it up, I tested out the views, and your "right", the Right side view won't show and I couldn't get the Wing Views to show or the default behind aircraft views to show up.

Dunno' :? :?

You was Right all along, and I was not payin a-tten-tion, sometimes I do dat :shifty:

just wanted to issue that Correction~o'

Want sum Views I'll send some views,, tho they may not be real exact for that aircraft, they'd be close :geek:

anyways, just slap me :D :P :?

Whenever I spot a photo like that, the first thing I do is make a note of the aircraft number and search for a NTSB damage report...

.....couldn't find a specific one, apart for this discussion of the aeroplane and its damage...>>> http://www.labusas.org/forum/archive/in ... 16142.html

Paul.

Aircraft details...>>> http://www.airport-data.com/aircraft/N76177.html

P.S. Flew Brett's Cessna 177RG around SOCAL this afternoon...no problemo....flew like a dream!
..followed by the wonderful Cessna 210..with the same gear.

Those photos make me cringe... The real airplane on which the model is based, was sitting grounded at the airport I was flying out of. I came very close to purchasing it at a good price (it needed an engine, prop, annual, and some avionics), but a student in the club beat me to it. He invested an additional $45,000 into it, and then, first flight with his instructor, they landed gear up **sigh**

The airplane was repaired, and returned to club service... I did my complex training in it, and most of my instrument training in it... and flew it literally all over the country.... including Airventure, at Oshkosh :)

It was sold not much after that.. and I learned recently, that it was finally wrecked beyond repair (no injuries).. makes me nostalgic.

ANYway.. we're six years, three operating systems, a couple of Direct-X versions, and mucho complex add-ons away from that model's development... way too many variables for me to trouble-shoot it.. even if I were still doing that stuff. I'd be more of a hindrance, than help... :?

I have a GA model that I've been working on.. on-n-off.. for years now.. and have been doing flight-testing for some payware companies ... You'd be stunned at how hard it is, even with a team of talented modelers, to get a good model working consistently, across all the hardware/software/add-on platforms running FSX..

Well brett, if you don't mind, when I get some more time, I'd like to repaint that aircrafts interior put some textures on it, kinda make er' feel tad bit worthy.

be later on tho.

then if ya don't mind I'd offer it up here on simivations site with credits goin' to you as the modeler or developer.

I'd throw in a bunch of new views too an an update to your aircraft.

I can't model these things, I'm more into textures and repainting, tho limited many times by the files and how they were made.

Heres one of my Bigger projects I'm still working on, repainting 7 different types of Lockheed L188 interiors , have a few done, few more to go, little bit time consuming, but looks so much better.

http://forums.simviation.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=166942

anyways,, yours is still a good model, just found a Dash panel replacement for it too !!!

When I posted this I did not see that Jet Ranger had added some good views above. I am going to try them. If anyone wants the camera definitions that will work with the "S" and "A" keys all you have to do is make a backup of the aircraft.cfg and replace the existing CameraDefinitions with this one. Brett had lines that said CycleHidden=YES which prevented the "S" and "A" keys from cycling the views. Now I understand why with the old definitions I could view them with the Menu but not with the "S" and "A" keys. Thanks to Brett for a GREAT! plane. There was nothing wrong in the original definitions it's just that I like to toggle between views with my joystick buttons that are programmed to "S" and "A" keys. Regards, Bob. Here they are:
