First problem Is this a freeware program or a payware I have a Payware version of Southwwest 737/800 and I have to set both radios to the appropriate runway frequency and make sure to set the heading otherwise it will not follow the glide path. You also have to reasonably close to the airport for it to pick up the signal do not expect it to make a turn to final you need to be heading as close as you can get it to the signal one way to see this is to select the display flight path for approach and select the red boxes with maximum number of boxes selected. In cloudy overcast weather I use the yellow telegraph poles as they are easy to spot in the clouds.
As for the other problem in order for you to see any aircraft in the selection menu the file must have a Thumbnail file which is a Icon of the aircraft. some downloaded air craft do not include this file which means you will not see it in the aircraft selection menu and you must also have the show all liveries box selected as well.

I purchased a package from Flight sim I wan to say but not sure at work now so I can not look on the cover.
But once I had that installed you have the option of downloading different livery,s so I down loaded the one with Shamoo on the side as that used to come into KJAX where I used to work at.
