Grumman Tiger modifications

Postby Russell Irwin » Wed Nov 13, 2013 12:55 am

My personal real-world aircraft is a Grumman AA-5B Tiger. It is fantastically reproduced for FSX by Tim Conrad, but with two main differences:

1.) The nosewheel on the real aircraft is not controlled by the rudder pedals; instead, the nosewheel swivels freely and steering is controlled by differential braking. Would it be possible for me to replicate this in the sim? If so, how?

2.) The Tim Conrad version is overpowered (especially during climb) as opposed to the real version, with a difference of anywhere between 500 and 2000 FPM difference. Are there any new .air files online that modify this, or could I modify it myself?

Question 1.)
Tim Conrad has not configured the differential brakes.
Go to aircraft.cfg, [brakes] section, and add this line:

differential_braking_scale = 1.0 //Delta on the amount of brake when the rudder pedals deflected

Pressing the brakes (dot) key, when moving rudder, differential brakes are activated (you can read the message in the lower left corner of the screen).

Question 2.)
According to the specs. of this plane Tim has used real values (see: http://www.grumman.net/cgrcc/specs.html)
One way (not technical) of reduce overpower is reduce the hp of the engine.
Go to aircraft.cfg, section [piston_engine]
Change: max_rated_hp=180.00000 make trials reducing this hp figure ensuring that other aircraft performance are not altered.

NOTE on jet engines:
In aircraft.cfg, there is a section:
[jet_engine]
thrust_scalar = 1
Usually this is 1, but there are some planes with higher or lower values.
This seems more technical, increasing/decreasing the thrust_scalar the plane has more/less power.
