A question about FSX Aircraft

Postby ThaddeusHWJ » Tue Nov 12, 2013 5:41 pm

Does FSX aircraft have this tendency to disappear in the FSX Aircraft Menu when there are too many add-on aircraft?

If so, what can be done about it?

I've never heard of your problem before, but I think also have another symptom- has your FSX performance suffered lately? I'm willing to bet my yoke that it has.

There's two things that I do that are extremely easy.

1. Create a folder outside of your FSX registry. I have mine on my desktop. This folder will keep all of the aircraft you do not ordinarily use. I call mine "seldom-used planes," while others call theirs "boneyard" or what have you. And that's exactly what it is. Just cut the folders of the aircraft you rarely use out of your FSX/simobjects/airplanes directory and paste them into the boneyard folder.

2. If you have too many repaints for one aircraft, you can easily hide those repaints without deleting them or modifying the aircraft.cfg. Create a folder called "unused" in the aircraft's folder. Now, place all of the textures that you don't use in this folder. If you do need to use them, just cut and paste them back into the main aircraft folder.

If you have too many aircraft "active," it can cause a serious frame rate loss on lower-end computers. When I removed all of my unused aircraft, I saw a FPS jump of 5-10 FPS.

Happy flying!

Your second point sounds really effective, I shall give it a try.

Thanks very much! :)
