Not all scenery showing

Postby Flying Trucker » Mon Nov 11, 2013 12:31 pm

Hi folks:

Several days ago I downloaded the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome from our Download Site here.

It worked fine, great colours, aircraft and buildings.

I was trying to Delete VisualBee from my Internet Explorer and after several attempts I did a System Restore.

It got rid of Visual Bee and some of my most recent FSX add-ons.

I reinstalled the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome and when I went to use it this is what I got:
-all black aircraft
-no buildings

I have tried to Delete this and I get a Scenery Cfg. Error ().

Have Downloaded this program from our site twice and did a new install.

I still get:
-all black aircraft
-no buildings

I have removed program through Scenery Add-on but still get the Scenery Cfg. Error ().

Would like to use this program but not sure what to do next.

This program uses an Auto Installer.

Help would be most appreciated... ;)
Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

You have to be careful when using any addon that has a auto installer as you might not know where it has put everything at. From what you describe it sounds like that you have lost the textures for the scenery. Usually when one adds new scenery you will create a couple of new folders one folder you would name after the scenery example if you have scenery for Mexico you would call the first folder Mexico and put it in the addon scenery folder than you would create two folders inside of the Mexico folder one called scenery this is where all of the .bgl files would go and one called textures where the textures would go.
In order to remove scenery that was created with a auto installer you need to run the uninstaller for the scenery. When you did a system restore you removed the program form the registry but not from the actual hard drive it more than likely created a separate folder and put it there. You need to look closely at the files on your main hard drive to see if you spot any thing with the word OLD behind it. as what usually happens in a case like this is it will take a folder named Mexico for example and it will name it Mexico.old
One has to pay attention when doing a system restore as it will always do this with any files that it finds that were created after the restore point. It will tell you about them But I can not remember if if gives you a option to ignore them if it did and you ignored it than you are out of luck.
You will need to delete any files that it may have left from the old scenery and rerun the install program again.
All scenery files are kept in the scenery cfg file.
The last thing you want to do here is to try to remove any scenery using FSX that was installed using a auto installer as all it is going to do is to remove it from the scenery cfg file and not from your hard drive. I am almost 100% sure your scenery and textures are in a folder someplace on your hard drive it is just a matter of finding them. But like I said look for any thing that has a file type of BAK or OLD
The same thing will happen if you put a new version of windows on the same drive as the old version was on you will see a filed called Windows.old

Hi,
This is just sort of a heads up. I highly (and frequently) recommend "System Restore" whenever a newly installed program causes problems. Not just Flight Simulator problems. But, I too, had a Scenery.cfg error on one occasion when I experienced a problem with new scenery and did a System restore. My guess is that the cfg file is regarded as a document and as such is left alone. When the scenery that it refers to has been removed an error occurs. I believe I used the freeware Scenery Config Editor to correct the problem.
