...I'm making a bit of a guess...

But I would have thought you have nothing to lose by putting a selected, suitable FSX Sound Folder in the selected FS 2004 Aircraft Folder.
Just re-name the  existing sound folder for safety.
After all, they are just simple .wav files!

I think sound folders are pretty universal.

No harm in trying. Just keep your original Sound folder by renaming it to Sound1 and then bring in the new sound folder (or create a new one to add sound files to)

As I recall, there's one extra file in an FSX Sound Folder that needs to be removed (either a .txt or .cfg file) for it to work in FS 9. Like the others said... give it a try and see if it works!

After looking at various FSX Sound Packs that are available, it appears as if they are similar to FS 9 Sound Packs. Maybe it was just the specific airplane I was working with that had the extra file.
