Will my PC max out FS9 with heavy add ons?

Postby Groovin_DC-10 » Wed Jul 18, 2012 3:31 pm

Hello everyone,
I'm an FSX user.  I've been thinking about getting FS9 so I can do things I'm not able to in FSX.
In FSX I have to keep AI traffic at 40% (UT2) when I'm in large airports like Frankfurt, LAX, etc.  I also enjoy UTX night lighting but the fps hit is quite bad in large European cities.  This is where I'm struggling with fsx.

So I'm planning to get FS9.  I want to use Ultimate Traffic, REX for FS2004, Ultimate Terrain, airport add ons, PMDG MD-11, etc.  Basically FS9 with extreme add ons.  I'm just wondering if my PC can run all this at completely MAXED out settings (Including Ultimate Traffic at 100% and UT night lighting)?

Also, what's better, DBS Walk and Follow or Active Cam?

My specs are:
AMD 955BE @ 4ghz
8g DDR3
Nvidia GTX 560

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Rush out and buy FS 2004...Add it to your HDD...
...you have nothing to lose!... :)...!

With your specification I suspect that it will run FS 2004 beautifully. (It does for the rest of us!)... [smiley=thumbsup.gif]...!

One of the many reasons that I use my FS 2004 rather than my FSX is because I can run everything maxed out, smoothly, on my lowly Computer, with all my various scenery add-ons, REX, UT USA+Canada, VOZ 1.8 (free!), various free meshes, etc...With traffic at 50-75-100%... :-*..!
With one or two scenery add-ons, FS 2004 can almost? equal FSX for overall appearance. I am constantly amazed at the lovelyness on my FS 2004 scenery... ;)...!
There is lots of "stuff" out there for FS 2004!
So, give it a try, crank up the default, and then do a bit of tinkering with various add-ons...
..you wont be disappointed...trust me... ;)...!

Welcome to the Club!... ;D...!

Paul..FS 2004.... 8-)...!

I don't get why people complain about FPS from FSX,you don't even NEED to max out ny settings to beat FS9 in FSX!
It is true that my system is quite bad for FSX but that's only when ENB bloom is on!

One of the advantages of FS 2004, is that it is extremely reliable on most Computers, (I hate "Problems"), as well as being very "smooth", day after day, with little, or no annoying crashes, interruptions, or other annoyances, etc.. :)...!

..and don't forget, most of my very special add-ons are/were only available for FS 2004.

My FSX is only occasionally wheeled out for a comparison flight.

Having BOTH is fine!

I even run my FS '98/FS 2000/FS 2002 every now and again..for "nostalgia" purposes... ;)...!

Paul...FS 2004..(and FSX)... 8-)...!

Paul,
BIG thanks for your help.  That sounds great.  I will get FS9 next time I go to the aviation shop (probably within a month or so).  I can't wait to try it out.  I was checking my account on aerosoft.com and I just noticed that a lot of the airports I purchased for FSX also have an FS9 version and I get them for free because I already purchased the FSX version :).   You're right.  I was watching some vids on youtube and it looks like FS9 with a lot of add ons can look pretty close to FSX minus the fps loss.
Thanks again.

Jetprop,
Wasn't really complaining about fps.  I can always adjust my settings in FSX to get good steady fps (I have everything on max except for water, traffic and autogen).  Reason I want FS9 is because when I fly into LAX, Frankfurt and other large airports, I want to see the airports packed with other airliners.  I can't do this with FSX.  The biggest airport I can fly to with 100% traffic is KLAS.
I also love the UT night lighting but it takes a huge fps hit.  I hear the FS9 version is friendlier on fps and there are more points of light.
I'm not switching to FS9 only.  Just want to do things I'm not able to in FSX 8-).
