A little help would be appreciated for a few issues

I am having a few strange problems. That has only happened recently and without any new add-ons. #1: I am flying either an IFR or VFR flight and within I'd say maybe 20 minutes or so the sim freezes and I have to open the task manager and close.I have no idea what I should or could do to fix this issue.#2: It also freezes when I start at one airport then try to load anything in GA or my Portland, Oregon scenery that is using Flight Zone Portland. The second issue doesn't occur if I start there but it will if I try to enter it, reenter it, or load it from a different locale. Thank you for your time. Regards, Jeremy

Jeremy,

As a start I'd try uninstalling the problematic airport and reinstalling it.

I'd also look at uninstalling the LAST thing you did before the issues started.  Likely that is the culprit.

Just making an educated guess.

best,

Sounds like a missing scenery object file, just try as John says and re-install it from scratch, it might also be worth reading the readme in case it says you require a certain add-on scenery pack to make it work ;)

Okay, after trying what you said, I can report no change in behavior. I have no clue as to how to fix this. I have pondered over this for many hours to no avail. :-/

1.  Are you using Vista or System 7?  If so and you are not using the Classic desktop see this link:

http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/easily-disable-vistas-aero-before-running-an-application-such-as-a-video-game/

2.  Try unchecking all addon scenery layers in the Scenery Library to deactivate them.  Now try it.

Hope this helps,

It does stink of video-card misbehavior a little, if I'm in the liberty to say mine... if you haven't tried to clean the GPU heatsink (a spray of air from a compressed air can or garage compressor work quite well) and made sure the fan works correctly yet, was I you I'd do it ASAP.

I can't use compressed air as I am on a laptop. If you know a way, that would be worth a try. Thanks.

If it's a laptop, does it get REALLY hot just across the sim freezes? Meaning a little before, while and just after? :-?

If the answer is yes, you may want to bring your PC to a lab to make sure everything is in working order. Laptops do mount small fans for better air flow into the chassis (even my dirt-old Pentium MMX 233 laptop did), and if one of those fan decided to stop working... :(

Alternatively you could buy one of those laptop stands with maxi-fans below blowing fresh air into your PC (should be cheaper), but to the expense of portability (you'll have to bring with you the stand too, when on the move). Your call. :)

If the PC doesn't really get all that hot across the freeze... I would try a reinstallation of EVERYTHING (OS included) before attempting new diagnosis. :-/

Yeah, it does get rather warm. I'll try that stand thing and repost when I get it. Thanks everyone. I'll keep you all posted. Regards, Jeremy :)

i have a "stand" under my laptop (see specs below) that has 2 fans in it along with a 4 port hub.

I can fly FS9 completely maxed out over Portland; LAX; New York.... pretty much anywhere for 6 hours and not 1 time does my Motherboard fan even turn on.

I can also run FSX on mid-levels in ORBX areas for hours on end, and the MOBO fan never turns on.

I suspect that my core temps never get high enough for the fan to turn on.  -- running OCCT.. my temps generally stay around 45 to 58 (i believe celcius) nothing higher than 58.

The fan pad will help out extremely well!!

I don't know if you ever got your issue resolved. I'm curious to know if you also have Holger Sandmann's Columbia River Gorge scenery installed. I was having the same problem as you described, then found that if I gave the FlightZone PDX scenery files a higher priority than the CRG files, the freezes and crashes disappeared. Of course, if you don't have Holger's scenery, maybe this won't help, but it's possible you have some kind of conflict.

I know a partial fix, It's happened to me before so I know it works.  Multiple times I've had an add-on I wanted to use and I would try to load it from the create a flight page. Then, when I would hit "Fly Now", the game would freeze.  All you have to do is just start the default C172, Seattle-Tacoma flight, or just make some flight where there are no add-ons nearby, including aircraft. Then once you're in the flight, press the Alt key and go to Aircraft to change to the aircraft you want, and World to go to the airport you want.  It works fine that way!  ;D
But I still don't know why it happens though. :(
