How do I fix the "Out of Virtual Memory" message. You fly from a to b and just as you are setting up to land the Out of Virtual Memory thing comes up and says microsoft has to close.
Very  furstrating. I know I fixed this problem a long time ago but it is back again. I have a high end computer with lots of memory and it is not connected to the internet and I have not added anything for at least a year. I would appreciate any help I could get on this, and this time I will print the fix out.
Thankyou

How much memory does your computer have in total? RAM type memory, not hard drive capacity.

What happens is the computer will use the hard drive as 'fake' RAM. It is far slower than normal memory, but it does the same job. Your computer has allocated a certain amount of this HDD memory as 'virtual memory'.

There are 3 ways to get rid of this issue, and they are in order of worst to best:

1) Increase the limit of virtual memory. This link will demonstrate how

2) Only run essential programs. If you're trying to play FS2004 and you have iTunes open in the background and you're trying to chat on MSN Messenger, that's not good. If you want to play FS2004, play it. Close everything else. Some people probably have a specific login on their computer strictly for the game, and will tell it to only load critical things.

3) Increase your RAM. Your computer will start to use virtual memory when out of 'actual' memory. So if you increase the amount of RAM, it will have to run out of more of it in order to need virtual memory.

1 and 2 are free options, but they don't work as well as number 3. 2 is a good solution for playing games no matter what. 3 means buying physical memory and inserting it into your computer.

From one of Nick Needham's posts:

[glow=yellow,2,300]For XP:[/glow]

disable hidden files and folders (including hidden OS files), then on the root C:\ you will find a file named: boot.ini

Open it in notepad and add the following to the end of the OS boot line:

/3GB/Userva=2560

EXAMPLE LINE EDIT:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows XP Professsional" /fastdetect /3GB /Userva=2560 <---- add it here

save and close the file

reboot

to set that back to default, simply remove the edit

For Vista:

1. Open a command prompt with Administration rights. You find the command prompt box under "Programs-Accessories-Command prompt"

My FS suffered this message suddenly for sometime.  Often FS wouldn't even start.  Someone here suggested unchecking addon sceneries until the message went away.  I did that & it did.
I deleted the offending scenery & added the others one by one with no reappearing message.   It seemed there was a conflict somehow with a scenery with a bug in it.  Have you tried this dodge?  It might be worth it if not..... ::)
