Finally joined the "Everything Maxed" club.

Well I've finally got a PC worthy of FS9. My old rig blew up with a bang and has been consigned to the great PC graveyard in the sky. My son-in -law has built a new PC for me with FSX in mind but I gotta tell you that FS9 rocks on this PC! No stuttering, frames holding steady at 25 (locked) everywhere and I finally have reflections on water that my old graphics card couldn't manage. I'm made up!! And yes, everything maxed!!
All I need now is for my son-in-law to install the old hard drive so I can retreive some vital files (not all flight sim related) and then I can get on with installing all of the addons which I have collected over the last 5 years of simming.
May or may not decide to try FSX but for now, long live FS9!

Nothing to do with me. I still think PC's are driven by steam! It's all down to my genius son-in-law (degree in computer science, Durham University.)
He now informs me that I need a larger monitor to take advantage of the improved graphics. Off to see the bank manager. ::)

I hope your progeny installed the 64-bit Pro version. As for installing your old hard drive, just get a Thermaltake Blac-X docking station, transfer the files you want to keep and wipe out everything else. Voy-la! You have a new hard drive...

Indeed it is 64 bit pro.
As for the docking station, it looks like an interesting piece of kit but I don't really see the advantage over just having the old hard drive living inside the case permanently wired in. The plan being to get everything I need from it onto the new HD (it's got enough room and the old drive is only 80gb) and then format the old drive to use to back up essential files. This has the advantage that it doesn't cost me any more money. The well is nearly dry!
That's the plan anyway.

Watch this space.

...don't forget, Zaph...

...have fun driving your Cessna 152 around the skies all day and not constantly worrying whether you can improve on your existing Hardware...

Who uses that "thing"anymore?  ;D Didn't you hear? Windows 7 is the new XP.  :D

I'm running Win 7 and have not had a single problem. I haven't heard anyone say anything bad about 7, actually. But Vista is an entirely different story.  :-X Had it before 7, and it was a train wreck. Hopefully MS Flight ends up being the "Windows 7" of flight simulators.  :D (You can call FSX the "Windows Vista" of flight sims.  ;D)

The main thing that puts me off Windows 7, is the sheer cost of purchasing it... :o...!

I need to spend that sort of money on Sweets and Cookies instead... [smiley=thumbsup.gif]...!

Paul... ;D... ;D...!

My new (long ago) Win XP Pro was a low-cost, un-boxed, OEM version....(Uncle Bill doesn't allow Dealers to sell them to the Public now).

I like low-cost things!... [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]...!

Darn it - I have most setttings maxed - but still get a small "spike lag" whenever the radio comes on...

Very frustrating!
