Hi Wayne. I have no practical knowledge of Vista but I see plenty of advice posted on the forum. As nobody else has replied I'll add my two penn'orth. The problem arises when trying to edit/modify files within the FS root directory. (This is the Flight Simulator 9 main folder.) For example; adding new variations to Aircraft.cfg files. For security reasons Vista & Windows 7 treat the default Program Files directory & its contents as protected files & will not allow this. There should be no need to disable the UAC. Changing the folder attributes of the FS9 root directory folder should do the trick.

if you're using Vista or Win 7 you need to bring up your computer and find where you have you FS located. Highlight it, then right click, select properties, select security tab, highlight you user name in the box, and click edit. In the next pop up again highlight your user and then in the bottom select full control and then hit apply. This will change the folder attrib's of just the FS so that you can change file info (make changes to cfg files) Once this is done, and windows goes thru the process of changing them, you will be able to change your cfg files and be able to save them as they are with no problems.
I'm told the best method for avoiding these problems is to install FS to a location outside the Program Files directory. You might bear this in mind if you ever have to reinstall FS9.
